I knew that look perfectly well; disbelief then common sense returning. I had seen it a million times. I knew what happened, too. Uncontrollably, my eyes had flashed green, and the confusion that painted Dash's face was proof. But like always, he shook his head and continued with the bullying. Everyone had that look on their face. Dash, Paulina, my teachers, anyone that had ever really angered me had mastered that look. I never knew what they assumed had caused my accidental green eyes until I heard Kwan mutter, "Just a trick of the light," as he slammed the locker door on me.

Mr. Lancer had done the same thing when I got in trouble for a problem Dash had committed. I shot my teacher that inadvertent glare, and he started scanning his surroundings for anything else glinting green. I saw his eyes rest on a gleaming green vase, and I heard him mumble, "Just the light," as I left the room for detention.

From that point on, I knew that's what they all figured it was. I started walking away from Dash while he continued to holler taunts at me, but only one of them made my blood boil. "Well fine," he shouted, "If you don't let me take my anger out on you, then how about your girlfriend?"

I knew exactly who he was talking about, and I held back the "she's not my girlfriend," but instead reeled around and shot him a deadly expression. His prideful smile morphed into one of sheer terror while he backed away. As I turned myself around I caught my reflection in a classroom window. For only a split second my eyes stared back at me, blood red. "But that can't be," I convinced myself, "It's just a trick of the light."
