A/N: Just a quick little drabble – designed to help me get over my writer's block. It's working. Stuck Between A Rock and a Werewolf should have a new chapter posted sooner than later. Eternal Love is trickier, though.

Disclaimer: The 'letters' written are actually the lyrics to Fall For You by Secondhand Serenade. Lily and James are J.K.'s.

James,

The best thing about tonight is that we're not fighting. Could it be that we have been this way before? I know you don't think that I've been trying; I know you're wearing thin down to the core.

But hold your breath, because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you over again. Don't make me change my mind. I won't live to see another day, I swear it's true, because a guy like you is impossible to find.

Lily.

James Potter received a note in familiar, elegant writing one morning at breakfast. The seventeen year old boy looked at the sender quizzically. She sat down the table from him, busying herself with her food. He opened the parchment and scanned it's contents quickly. He excused himself from the table, and went to sit with her. A smile graced her face. They were at the start of their seventh year at Hogwarts, and at the start of their relationship.

Lily,

This is not what I intended. I always swore to you that I would never fall apart. You always thought that I was stronger. I may have failed, but I have loved you from the start.

But hold your breath, because tonight will be the night that I will fall for you over again. Don't make me change my mind. I won't live to see another day, I swear it's true, because a girl like you is impossible to find. You're impossible to find.

James.

The owl landed by the girl's feet. She stared at it, wondering who on earth would send her a letter. Her parents were dead, her sister hated her, and her... James was happily unfaithful with another of his bunnies. She scowled as she saw the rough, blocky scrawl on the parchment. She took it and read it anyway. Tears blurred her vision. Lily Evans looked up in surprise, and saw James standing by the willow she was feet away from. He held a single red rose before him. She accepted it.

From there on, the lives of Lily Evans and James Potter were intertwined. They married, loved, fought, and had a child: Harry James Potter, the Boy Who Lived. They died together on October 31, 1981. And that, as they say, is history.
