Author's Note: Hey, anybody miss me? I know I've been gone for a long time and I'm sorry. Life just kinda came and punched me in the face a few dozen times. Anyways, I don't know where the inspiration to write this came from, maybe I just felt guilty for not writing for so long. Hopefully I'll post more often. I really love writing, but it can be so time consuming sometimes.

"In this project you will be working in groups of two and it is worth 20% of your grade," announced my history teacher. Hands flew into the air.
"No, you cannot choose your partners. I will be drawing names," she sighed. Over half of the hands went back down. She pulled out a plastic sandwich bag with little slips of paper in them and reached in to assign the first group. The room tensed up with suspense as she unfolded the first slip and cleared her throat.
"Trent and… DJ," the two turned towards each other and high-fived as the next groups were announced.
"Lindsay and Beth, Harold and Ezekiel, LeShawna and Tyler, Cody and Owen, Duncan and Geoff, Bridgette and Courtney, Katie and Sadie, Eva and Izzy," some of the teams smiled at each other, and others weren't exactly jumping for joy. My name hadn't been called yet. Neither had Noah, Heather, nor Justin. I wasn't very eager to work with any of them. All of my friends had already been paired up.
"Gwen and…" the room slowed down as her hand went back into the bag for the second name. I prayed that it wouldn't be Heather. I didn't really like the other two, but Heather would be absolute torture.
"Noah. And that leaves Justin and Heather. You will have two weeks to work on this project, here is what I'll be grading you on," she passed out rubrics to us.
Noah. My partner for the project was Noah. At least he was actually smart and could probably pull his own weight unlike Lindsay, who I was paired with for the last project. That was a nightmare.
I glanced over at Noah. His face was neutral and uninterested in his surroundings.
"Will we be working on this during class?" Geoff asked.
"No, you and your partner will have to meet up after school. You have the last five minutes of class to discuss with your partner," the teacher walked back to her desk and began grading papers. Everybody got up and started talking with their partner. Noah sat at his desk and picked some lint off of his sweater.
I sighed and got up. I walked over and slipped into the empty desk next to him. After a moment of nothing happening, I cleared my throat. He glanced over at me.
"Yes?"
"In case you hadn't noticed, we've been paired up to work on this project together. What days are good for you to work on it?" I asked. He shrugged his shoulders.
"How about Wednesday and Thursday this week and Tuesday and Friday next week?" I suggested.
"Why those specific days?"
"Those are the days that I'm free. Are you busy those days?"
"No."
"Ok, my house or your house?" I asked. He hesitated for a moment.
"Your house," he answered.
"Ok, here you go," I wrote down my address on a sticky note and handed it to him. He stuck it in his notebook.
"If you could come over around 5:30 or so, that would be good."
"Got it," he said as the bell rang. He gathered his books and walked out. I grabbed my things as well and stepped into the hallway into the sea of students transitioning to their next classes. This was going to be a long two weeks.
