I was reading into the Marlow and Kurtz relationship in terms of the critical essay at the end of our book about queer theory. This is a story about if Kurtz (if he would have survived) and Marlow would have really been together and how their relationship would have happened back then.

Marlow was set on telling the intended the truth but once he got there he was too nervous to do so. So he just told her the first thing that came to his mind and it seemed like she bought it. He didn't think or expect anything less given how ignorant and unknowing she was. She would have believed anything honestly. After the meeting with the intended both Kurtz and Marlow disappeared nobody knew what happened to them, until now. Marlow told his aunt that he was heading off to see the world and explore, but she was suspicious. She was sure that there was a sin that he was committing and that he needed to find religion again. He just brushed it off. You see after Kurtz healed from his sickness he and Marlow took a boat back to the Congo to live out their years. The minute they got onto the shores they were greeted with high hospitality. They had a huge feast after Kurtz and Marlow retreated into the forest. The two built a tent out of large branches and leaves. For the first time Marlow felt free, he knew that his feelings for Kurtz were wrong and savagery but with the way he was living now he was a savage! They stayed in the Congo together for twenty years but both longed for society again. On the way back to their final destination Marlow chuckles to himself.

"What is it, Marlow?" Kurtz questions.

"I was just thinking of my first journey to the Congo I thought I would have never returned…but…" he pauses sighing taking Kurtz's hand in his under a blanket, "The more I draw back on that memory the more I think that it wasn't a journey to the Congo it was a journey to you and look at us now…after twenty years living as savages we journey back to a world that cannot and will not accept us."

"Cannot and will not in this age but look Marlow…" He says pointing forward the sun rising, "The future is bright…so bright…" He smiles resting his head on Marlow's shoulder falling gently asleep.

"The future will only be bright if you are by my side Kurtz and I promise to protect you and give you that bright future…" He says resting his head on Kurtz. There they both lay sleeping peacefully the last happy memory for the both of them.
