Capac Raimi and his struggle for the streets of San Francisco
The time was 8:30PM sharp in West Station, Capac's train had just pulled in, he was the only one to depart the train at that stop on that smoggy Friday evening- no one ever came to San Francisco anymore, not since the crime level had gone up 36%, so that you couldn't go anywhere without being robbed or pick pocketed. But Raimi new that, which is why 4 times on the way to his hotel room 600 meters away, he had had to stop and threaten thieves with his pocket knife to give his possessions back. As he walked into the reception area of his hotel, he did as he was trained to do as a gangster, took in any possible escape routes and assessed anyone who could be a threat for future references. In the end he decided that the only escape routes were through the main door, or through the fire escape just to the left of the reception desk, and the only person that was conceived as a possible threat was a tall, muscle-bound, hulk of a man who was sitting in a dark corner, smoking a possibly Cuban cigar, and watching him carefully with small, bead-like brown eyes. That, he thought, was a sight he would never forget, those bead-like eyes. Watching him.
"Excuse me" he heard, breaking his line of thought and snapping him back to attention.
"Excuse me" that voice again, he looked up and was met by a hulking young women who was behind the desk, it was her speaking then, he thought.
"Hello, I am here to collect my room key" he said to the woman, then hurried on to explain "I was raised in America" as she gasped with surprise at his perfect American accent.
"Oh yes, certainly, I was just caught by surprise, we don't normally see any of you Afrikaners around here, Where you from anyway? If you don't mind me asking" she explained
"Tennessee", he replied in a gruff, irritated tone that made her wish she had never asked. "Now just gimmee my key and I'll be on my way" he continued in that gruff tone.
"Y-y-y-y-yes s-s-sir, I've got it right h-h-hear" she stammered.
"Thank you, Goodbye" he said as he made his way across the lobby towards the staircase, as he passed the lift he shivered, he had never been good in tight spaces, ever since falling in a well when he was a child, and having to tread water for hours, thinking he was going to die.
