The police had been and gone with their questions. The story took work – not easy to ward off suspicion with the broken corpse of a young girl laid out in his living room. But years of practice served him well, the cops now after a nonexistent suspect.

A quick search of the salvage yard confirmed what Bobby already knew. Preparations for a farewell were resignedly made.

Now, Bobby swipes a stray tear from his face as he watches the pyre burn, glad he is finally alone to mourn the loss of a loyal friend. Rumsfeld had been a good dog.
