Something random *cough cough* it was for the school newspaper *cough cough*.

Hope you enjoy! I might elaborate on this idea later! R&R!

We went to sleep one night, and woke up the next to a flash of light. Everything was normal. Except for one thing.

The dragons were gone.

Not many of us noticed at first. We'd all grown used to the dragons being gone sometimes. Not me. My dragon was always with me, or his mate, who was almost always nearby.

The strangest thing was that the eggs remained. Kinan and his mate, Deesia, had laid two eggs the week before, and they remained. I went out looking for them, and I found their eggs, but not them.

I was distraught.

Kinan was such a large part of my life. It even hurt for Deesia to be gone. She may not have been bonded, but she was loyal to Kinan, and by extension, me.

I had taken their eggs home, and made them a nest in my room. I didn't leave them alone, not for more than a few minutes at a time.

By the time everyone else realized that the dragons were gone, most eggs were beyond the point of rescue.

I will elaborate. Dragon eggs require a fairly consistent level of heat to hatch. Most eggs had been too cold by the time they were retrieved. Deesia's eggs were two of less than a hundred left across the world.

I remember when the government had come to our house, demanding I give them Kinan's eggs. I refused.

Three weeks later, after I had found their eggs, they hatched.

The two hatchlings were two little females, one a deep navy blue, sprinkled with silver scales, and the other a wonderful orange-yellow, with hints of pinkish-peach on her tail, head and her tiny wings, like a sunrise.

They were more ravenous than I expected them to be; the government had to supply money to feed them.

My two darlings became even more sought after when the information came out that they were two of roughly ten females remaining. The government tried to make me hand them over.

I refused again.

After a month or so of them being hatchlings, I named them. I named the navy one Tiande, and the yellow-orange one Giandce.

Soon after, they flew for the first time.

A year later, in a flash of light, the dragons came back.

But with that flash of light, we disappeared.
