This is a work in progress, a very rough draft. I love the characters, Buddy Sorrell, from The Dick Van Dyke Show, and Detective John Munch, from Law & Order: SVU. I thought it would be hilarious if these folks would meet someday in Central Park.

I do not own these characters. I never created them. I'm merely writing a scene that I hope turns into a nice story about them. I see Neil Simonesque banter in their future!

I will be joined by another writer who loves SVU. She'll be here soon, so stay tuned.

October in New York City. The leaves were painted in red, yellow, and orange, and if you stood still after walking on the crunching leaves, you could hear cello music.

Detective John Munch, dressed in black with dark sunglasses, had just come from his eye doctor, where he got his pupils dilated. He walked through Central Park, squinting into the light of the afternoon. He stopped, stood still, and looked at the short, stout man. The man was grabbing a woman by the throat and sawing her in half!

The detective walked quickly toward the would-be murderer and that poor, rather curvaceous woman. Why was he sawing that woman? What did she ever do to him? A strong feeling gripped the world-weary detective. "I'm suddenly glad that I'm not bald," he spoke his thoughts aloud.

"Not yet!" shouted the little man.

Munch shouted, "Put that woman down!"

"You're short!" Buddy snapped at the cello.

"I mean physically put her down. Now!"

"Ok, ok! You're physically short!" Buddy said to the cello, realizing that this guy wasn't a nut but that he really couldn't see that the cello was a cello and not a woman. "Oh, you thought that this was a woman! No, this is a cello. See?"

Finally recognizing the cellist, Munch said, "I'm sorry, Buddy. I didn't realize. Hey are you taking any requests?"
