Desperate times call for desperate measures. At least, that's what Peridot kept reminding herself as she wobbled around the labyrinth of a field she was in on uneven legs. It was worth it to escape capture by such primitive Gems. That would've been embarrassing. After flying away, she wasn't entirely sure where she ended up warping to, but there was grass as far as the eye can see and it was at least 10 feet tall. Didn't really help locating her whereabouts.
"Ugh, those stupid foot-snatchers! Who taught them their manners anyway? A rock? Oh, wait..." She shook her head quickly of that thought and continued hopping along her path. Right now the main goal was to put as much distance between herself and them. Even now, Peridot had yet to figure out how she was being followed by them so easily. There must be something she was missing...
Her thoughts came to a screeching halt as she looked forward. Up ahead, there was a fork in the road. On the right path was nothing but more stupid Earth grass. But on the left path, sitting there completely out in the open, was her missing foot. Her missing foot!
Peridot crossed her arms and scoffed, "Wow, you guys have pulled some dumb stunts, but this is just pathetic!" She could only assume those dumb-dumbs were listening in or watching her this very moment. Hopping forward, she couldn't help laughing at the obvious trap. "You really think I'm going to fall for this? Ha!" she waved a hand at it and turned to go down the footless, trap-less, right path.
"Unless..." she said thoughtfully as she stopped in her tracks, "you knew I wouldn't fall for an obviously dumb ploy. So I obviously can't trust the path on the right. " And with that, she turned to the left path and smiled to herself. The smile slid from her face as she stopped again with a sharp gasp. "But what if they knew that I knew that they thought I wouldn't take the empty path, so I can't trust the path on the left either.
The way she saw it, there were two options. One, fly away and admit defeat to this ridiculous set-up. And two, make a decision.
"Oh no, I'm not giving you clods the satisfaction! There's no doubt in my mind that I can figure this out!" She declared loudly with her hands on her hips.
...Nothing. No response. Usually the pale one with the pointy nose (whatever her name was) would chase after her by now. Huh. No matter.
She shook her head to focus and went into a very extensive train of thought. Most of which consisted of "they know that I know that they know that I know that they-" and so on. Hours passed. The sunlight was all but faded away.
"Aha!" she cheered before chuckling to herself maniacally, "Nice try! But my superior brain was no match for the likes of you!" And with that, she turned to the left and hobbled along over to where her foot was resting. "And I'll take tha- AH!"
Before she knew it, she was trapped in a cage that flew up out of the ground below her. The Crystal Gems were armed and surrounding her in no time at all.
"What?!" she screeched as she kicked and shook the bars of the cage frantically, "But how did you know? I thought through every possibility! "
"Simple," started Garnet as she adjusted her glasses slightly on her face, "There was a trap down both paths."
