Title: I Fall to Pieces
Pairing: Implied Jack/Ianto
Disclaimer: Russell Davies own the entirety of Torchwood. The song used is 'I Fall to Pieces' sung by the fabulous Patsy Cline, may she rest in peace. I own nothing.
I fall to pieces
Each time I see you again
I fall to pieces
How can I be just your friend
Ianto knew he had to move on. After all, Jack had been waiting for the Doctor for years now. He was but a way to pass the time. Didn't stop the pain though.
You
want me to act like we've never kissed
You want me to forget,
pretend we've never met
And I've tried and I've tried but I
haven't yet
You walk by, and I fall to pieces
Jack never said but Ianto knew he wasn't supposed to fall in love. He wasn't supposed to harbour feelings for his boss. It was just a way for two lonely souls to connect and to drive the demons away.
I
fall to pieces
Each time someone speaks your name
I fall to
pieces
Time only adds to the flame
He can't stop hoping though. Hope that Jack will come back. Hope that he'll come through the door, sweeping Ianto into his arms, kissing him and never looking back. Ianto imagines the safety that his arms will bring, the utter perfection known as Jack Harkness.
You
tell me to find someone else to love
Someone who'll love me,
too, the way you used to do
But each time I go out with someone
new
You walk by and I fall to pieces
He's tried to move on. He's dated other people. Females, males, the whole works but none of them compare. Ianto has tasted perfection and now he can't let go. If by any chance that he finds attraction in another person, he suddenly realises how much of a betrayal this is to Jack and breaks it off, no matter how much his head tells him he's wrong.
I
fall to pieces
Each time someone speaks your name
I fall to
pieces
Time only adds to the flame
The rest of the team have cottoned on to the fact that Jack and he had some sort of connection. Owen tried to use the part-time shag around him once. Ianto paid back the favour by giving him a bloody nose and a black eye. They've learnt since that Jack Harkness is a taboo around him.
You
tell me to find someone else to love
Someone who'll love me too,
the way you used to do
But each time I go out with someone new
You
walk by and I fall to pieces
Ianto loves and loathe Jack Harkness. He loves him for the feelings he bring, how he feels safe and its just them two when they connect. He loathes him for inspiring these feelings within him. He's falling to pieces and soon he'll be swallowed whole and he won't be him anymore. He's scared for when that happens because, what if Jack doesn't like him anymore?
He pushes it to one side now because Jack isn't he but he knows Jack will return one day. All he can do now, is move on, hope that Jack will come back soon and pick up the pieces before they're lost forever.
