My eyes opened wide. The sharp scent of copper sliced through the air. It worried me that the smell was emanating from my Nikolai. He wasn't exactly mine. Not yet.
Nikolai fell to his knees, I felt my blood boil. I was going to conserve the ammo on my Ray Gun, but I went trigger happy on my children. They deserved it! I hurried to his side, kneeling with him.
He spat and cursed. I froze. The blood. The blood! Blood! Blood! All over his clothes. All over his face. All over his l-lips. He glared, eyes burning twin holes in my own.
I leaned closer to clean the blood with my mouth.
What gives?
I just don't get it. My many compliments flooding back to memory, all aimed at Takeo. "Show em who's boss, Takeo!" and "Nice shooting Tak!" and who can forget "Aww! Our lil bundle of badass."
I respect him! Why doesn't he respect me? I couldn't help but think as I had his body to wall in front of me. I thought interrogations were a good method. Takeo stared through me.
"Why don't you respect me? I give all my respect to you! At least show some back!" I poured out my thoughts. "It is dishonorable to fraternize with enemies," Takeo responded.
I ground my teeth. He was still trapped in the past.
I just wanted a little respect was all, but I closed the distance between us.
I swung my gun on my fingers. God! Those zombies were almost as annoying as hippies. Every God knew how much he hated hippies. I stopped, seeing him, the math wiz of our rag tag team, scribbling out math on a scrap of paper he found.
I strode up to him, startling him, based on his small jump. I leaned closer to get a better look, in response, he leaned away, looking awkward. I couldn't understand math, always like another language.
"Robert, you are such a nerd," I said, wondering how he'd react. He seemed a little sensitive though, depending upon the fact of his face, UPSET written all over it. The math geek snatched his paper away, and looked the other way.
I couldn't help but follow his actions and calm him down. "But you're my nerd, Bob."
Castro and I flopped against the back wall of the elevator, finally catching our breath. Those zombies gave us a good run, and I felt like dying of embarrassment. Castro was besting me! He killed all the zombies I tried to. He said I should hide behind him.
The door slid open, and I went first to prove my bravery. My bravery didn't go unrewarded, even if it wasn't the kind I'd prefer. A zombie was waiting around the corner for me. I squeezed my eyes shut and waited for a blow that never came.
Castro ran ahead.
"Stay behind me and I can protect you."
I flushed painfully.
