For Pup, with love.
"Zelda, come away with me." The Hylian looked desperately into the Princess' eyes, which were full of the same sorrow. However, regret interrupted the pattern .
The princess looked away, unable to see the pained expression that would cross her former lover's face as she rejected him. "I just can't, Link. You know that. Ganondorf…"
Of course; it was always the guardian. It was always something. Honestly, Link was becoming quite tired of hearing that name, of that person, the one who tore the two apart. Link's fists clenched at his sides as memories of those awful nights replayed in his mind. He had not noticed that his face was slowly forming a vengeful look until Zelda pointed it out.
"Link, please. Don't look at me that way." Zelda sounded as if she were on the verge of crying, so Link quickly but gently pulled her to him, wrapping his arms around her and kissing the top of her head.
"I'm sorry," Link began. "I was just thinking of… bad memories."
A wet spot slowly formed on his chest, and the head buried into it moved softly. Together they stood like that for what seemed like forever. Link whispered soft words to calm Zelda, who's sobs eventually turned into nothing.
They finally parted. Zelda looked off to the side while Link folded his arms across his chest.
"So…" Link almost felt like dying. It was obvious that Zelda was still not going to change her mind. It made him want to give up, turn right around and walk away. It made him want to forget everything, but for some odd reason, he couldn't just leave the one he loved behind. Even after everything the Princess put him through, he still forgave her, and wanted to make things work, even if they were only friends.
However, the Princess was too stubborn, as always.
"So…" Zelda repeated.
The two looked at each other for a brief moment before simultaneously moving towards the other and capturing each other's lips. The spark lasted slightly, and the two pulled away. Soft tears streamed down Zelda's face, and Link lifted his hand to wipe them away.
"One day," Zelda stated, a small smile forming from her kiss-bruised lips. "One day."
