Hey everyone. This another re-write of one first few stories on . It's a Draco/Hermione love story. I wrote this way back in 2011 so no one knew besides J.K Rowling that Ron and Hermione would end up together. Or that Hermione would end up becoming Minister of Magic. So that is why she has a different job than what's cannon. I hope you all enjoy the re-write of the first chapter.
To say that Hermione Jean Granger was having a very bad day was an understatement. A very big understatement at that. It all started with her waking up twenty minutes late for work. She was a healer at St. Mungo's. She dialed work as she frantically dressed for the day praying that Mal was the boss today because Lorna was really nasty if you were late. Mal was pretty easy going with everyone.
Thanking her lucky stars she let a relieved breath she had been holding when Mal asked who was calling. "Hey, Mal," Hermione sighed tiredly. "It's Hermione. I'm so sorry but I'm going to be late to work today. I will get there as soon as I can."
"It's okay, 'Mione," Mallory Kasin her boss and Head Healer told her. "Get here as soon as you can and be careful."
Rushing through the rest of her morning routine she decided to skip breakfast and rushing to the fireplace she Flooed to work. When she got there she started to feel guilty because there were a lot of patients waiting to be seen yet. She quickly raced to the back and clocked in to start her work day.
Her first patient of the day was young boy, about nine or ten, who was throwing up slugs. This reminded her with a sting of her second year when Ron's own wand turned him and he was throwing up slugs much like this boy was. As she was caught up in her memories of years gone by she felt something wet and slimey going down her shirt. Opening her eyes she saw that she hadn't been swift enough to avoid a fresh wave of slugs from the boy.
After coming up with a cure for the young boy she quickly went to her locker and changed shirts. She didn't plan on wearing slug and puke all day long after all.
A few more patients came and went during the day and soon it was time for lunch. She was supposed to be meeting Harry and Ron at the Leaky Cauldon but when she got there all that was waiting for her was a note. It was from Harry stating that both he and Ron were now at St. Mungo's because Ginny was having her and Harry's first child. Hurrying back after grabbing a quick bite to eat she went to visit Harry and Ginny. A pang of disappointment hit her as she saw that Ginny had already had the baby. Hermione was supposed to have delivered the baby but she guessed if she couldn't Mal was a good second option.
What made matters much worse though was the fact that Ron and his girlfriend Lavender Brown where there. She knew that Ron would be there him being Ginny's brother and all. But she kind of hoped that Lavender would be left at home for this occasion.
"You know what, 'Mione," Mal told her trying to put her in brighter spirits and give her time spend with her godson, "why don't you take the rest of the day off and spend it with your friends and your new born godson?"
"Are you sure, Mal?" Hermione asked. "I can stay until the end of my shift if you need me."
"It's fine. Have a good rest of the day."
"Sure. Thanks, Mal." Hermione went and clocked out finishing her work day from hell. But the fun didn't stop there because Lavender and Ron were both still there when she got back.
"Oh, Hermione," Lavender began like they were old friend catching up or something of the like, "Ron and I were wondering if you would be wiling to go on a double date with us. We have the most perfect guy in mind for you."
Something in the smile that Lavender turned on didn't seem right to Hermione and she should have gone with her gut and said no. But of course she couldn't with Ginny and the baby, James Sirius, watching her like they were. "Okay," she sighed. Little did she know that she would already know who her date was. Or that they had a tumultuous history together at Hogwarts.
If she'd have know this going to happen she'd have said no on the spot whether Ginny and James Sirius were watching or not. When she arrived at the restaurant, dressed very nicely mind you, Hermione was shocked to find no Ron. No Lavender. Just a a very stunned Draco Malfoy trying to pick his jaw up off the floor.
"Let's get this over with, Granger," Draco snapped as he lead her to a reserved table that had their names on it.
"Yeah," she agreed sullenly. This was going to be a very long night she thought to herself as the waiter walked over and went through the customary spiel about the specials and what have you. She was so going to get even with Ron and Lavender for setting her up with the bouncing ferret. She was sure of it.
I hope you all enjoyed the re-write of the first chapter of A Path to Love (A Dramione Love Story). I will try to update soon.
