It was Teddy Lupin's 12th birthday, and all he really wanted was his mum and dad. He smiled when he received the many gifts from various family members (including Hogwarts a Revised History from Hermione and Ron and a new broomstick from his godfather) and had thanked them graciously enough that his desire for his parents went unnoticed. However, he couldn't help wondering, as he looked up at the framed photo of his parents on their wedding day, what life would be like with them.

"Teddy, we've got cake for you outside!" shouted Ginny. She always did the cooking and because, although Hermione was an amazing witch, cooking – through magic or Muggle means – seemed slightly beyond her. Ron always lavished in telling the story of how he was forced to eat stewed fungi and charred fish while the two of them and Harry were fighting Voldemort. Although Teddy had heard the tales of their travels numerous times, he waited with patience until his dad's various visitations occurred, from his argument with Harry to his announcement that he, Teddy, had been born. Ginny had always unadvised Harry to talk about Remus and Tonk's death, but Harry had continued, saying that Teddy should know the truth. Teddy knew all the truth – that his parents were Aurors and that they had died to make his world a better place to live in.

Teddy walked into the Potter's vast garden of Number 12, Grimmauld Place, where a table with a sizable spread sat. In the centre, a cake sat with a tiny marzipan model of him, casting a spell out of a tiny wand. "Wow, this looks…amazing. Thanks, Ginny. Thanks, everyone." Victoire patted the empty place beside her. "Sit here, birthday boy!" He made to sit down, but Harry grabbed his arm. "Wait, Teddy, I need to tell you something."
"Sure." He saw Harry glance at Ginny.

"Let's go to the kitchen."

In the kitchen, Harry and Teddy sat down facing one another. "What's up?" said Teddy.

"There is something I haven't told you about your father."

"I thought you said I should know everything."

"I did, but this is something you should only know when you're old enough to understand and appreciate your dads…condition."

"Was he sick?"
"No, Remus was perfectly healthy. Until full moon, of course."

"Then what?"
"Teddy, your father was a werewolf."
