She'd always wanted a pet. She'd yearned, ever since she'd been a little girl, to have a fuzzy, furry, and warm body with whom to curl up at night while her sister was out saving the world or maybe getting herself killed. She wanted a cat with whom to share all of her secrets or a dog who would be more loyal than her sister and always choose her first. Dawn was tired of being alone, and even with her family all around her, she still felt that way. She believed she wouldn't if she had a pet.
Dawn blinked at the memory that she knew wasn't real as she stared into the unblinking eyes of Tara's cat. The poor girl had been left all alone after Tara had been killed and Willow had gone after Warren. Dawn understood Willow's wrath. She hoped she killed the bastard, but still she shouldn't leave Miss Kitty Fantastico all alone like this.
She picked the cat up and cuddled her in her arms. She smiled when she mewed. "It's okay," she reassured her. "We're not alone." Not any more. She looked after her, and even after Willow returned, they never separated for long.
The End
