Regina's hand trembled slightly as she picked up the gun. She knew that it was cowardly for her to give up, to take her own life, but she didn't know how to live anymore. She had lost everything, so why not end it for good? It was only a matter of time before someone else did, and she would rather die at her own hand than from the blade of a fairytale character who was trying to be a hero.
She slowly raised her hand to her temple. Shouts could be heard from outside; she had expected a mob to come after her, now that the curse was broken, but she had assumed that it she would have a little bit more time. Closing her eyes, she cocked the gun, hearing a click that sounded almost comforting. She told herself once more that she had to do this, that there was no possible way for her to be happy. Taking a deep breath, she told herself that she would pull the trigger on the count of three.
One. Her palms began to sweat, as if she was only just realizing what she was about to do.
Two. It was nearly over, she was nearly free.
Three. Her arm was suddenly twisted away from her head as she fired the gun, before it was wrenched out of her hand. Eyes snapping open, she saw that she had succeeded in shooting a hole through her office ceiling.
Regina wheeled around to discover that her rescuer was none other than Emma Swan. Not knowing how exactly to react, she was suddenly filled with a pulsing anger. "What the hell?" She shouted, because those were the only words that described the situation.
"You're not thinking." Emma spoke slowly, as if she didn't expect Regina to hear a word that she said. "You don't really want to kill yourself." She said, a little faster, but her voice still sounded distant.
"Excuse me", Regina sounded more confused than anything. If Emma was going to brush into her office and rip a gun from her hand, then she could at least try to make sense.
"You can't do this to Henry", Emma answered after a moments hesitation. Regina almost opened her mouth to say something, anything, in her deference, but she knew that there was no excuse. Emma seemed to think that here job there was done, so she slunk out of the office, as quietly as possible.
Emma was Henry's mother, but that didn't mean that he didn't still love the woman that had raise him. He may not show it, but he would be devastated if anything happened to Regina. She would have to live for him, even if it meant pain. She had to make sacrifices that would hurt, because that was what mothers did. That was why Emma had saved her, and that was why she wasn't going to try to take her life again.
Well it's day three of Scarlet's contest and I've made it this far!
