She couldn't sleep. Tonight it seemed extremely dark, and a peaceful sleep eluded her. Not that she usually slept serenely, it was just that this time sleep evaded her all together. Though she didn't know if being racked with nightmares was better than not being able to sleep at all.

She had contemplated going to her parents, but they would just berate her for waking them up. About how she was eight-years-old now and they needed sleep so they could function properly, get to work and earn a living. But she didn't really understand why they had to have so much sleep; after all she barely got any.

Now she was choosing between going to Edge, across the hall, or down two doors to Crowe. She usually went to Edge, but when he was out on adventures with his father and she had a nightmare she would go to Crowe. Edge always understood her better but, Crowe remembered important things, like her birthday. Then again even if he got her present to her on time; Edge always got the right present.

Finally deciding to go to Edge, she silently tip-toed out of her home to Edge's place. The finger scanner on his door recognized her prints and released the lock with a soft whoosh.

Edge had put her prints into the scanner's database, when she had to come over for late-night visits, so as not to wake up the Mavericks. Not that they minded, but eventually Mr. and Mrs. Maverick started having bags under their eyes that made her feel guilty.

She slipped in the small gap between the door and the doorframe; shutting the door quietly behind her. Slowly she made her way to Edge's room. Opening the door going in and clicking it shut behind her; for a moment she allowed her eyes to adjust. Making out Edge's practically glow-in-the-dark blonde hair.

"Edge?" she called, uncertainly with a soft tone.

"Hmmm…" came a small moan from underneath the lumpy covers.

She moved closer to him, "Edge." She whispered again.

"Huh?" he said drowsily, his turquoise eyes opened, looking hazy.

"Edge, it's me."

"Reimi?" he said, failing to stifle a yawn.

"Uh-huh." She replied.

Finally, sitting up and rubbing his eyes. Edge patted the spot beside him, wanting Reimi to sit, to which she complied.

"Did you have another nightmare? Do you want to talk about it?"

Reimi shook her head 'no'. "I couldn't sleep." She said as he played with her long silky brown hair— right now though it was frizzy from her tossing and turning. Edge tried to run his hand through her hair, only to find it tangled so he couldn't. Edge asked if he could brush her hair.

"Sure." He'd done this once before; when they had been running late for school and she had been trying to put on her shoes and brush her hair at the same time.

Edge grabbed a brush and started to slowly comb through her hair; as not to pull it. The feel of the brush thoroughly pulling knots out of her hair, had a calming effect.

Once he was done he ran his fingers through her hair, satisfied when they moved through it smoothly. He sat the brush on the nightstand. Edge glanced over at Reimi; she looked so tired he knew she would not want to go back to her room.

"Want to go to sleep?" Edge asked scooting over on the bed to allow room for her. Reimi climbed under the blankets with him and they curled up together; both finally falling into a peaceful slumber.
