"Do you have to go Els?" Anna begged. She had tried to hide her anxiety about Elsa sailing off to Corona to negotiate their new trade deal since the day her sister told her she would have to go, but now that the day of her sister's departure had arrived she could not contain her worry and grief about the voyage.
"I will only be gone till Sunday Anna. And this trade will really help the kingdom recover. It will be fine, you'll see." argued the older girl as she walked towards the front door of the castle. She didn't mean to be cold to the girl but she knew that if she looked in her sister's puppy dog eyes she would cave and stay home. So she continued walking even when the girl kept up her arguments all the way to the docks and out to the ship. Only when she was ready to board did she look back and see the terror in the princess's eyes.
"Snowflake" she began, using her nickname for the girl to draw a smile out of her. "This won't be like them you know. I will come back. What happened to mother and father was one in a million. I will go there, secure this deal and head straight back here to you. You won't even notice im gone. I promise." She pulled Anna into a tight hug. Stealing a quick kiss on her neck before she pulled away to hold her at arm's length. "I promise"
"I can't lose you too" Anna mumbled.
"You won't, you never will." She stroked her cheek before placing quick kisses to both her sister's cheeks and stepping aboard the boat.
Elsa stood on deck watching her home fade away as they sailed off. In all honesty she was worried sick. Not only about Anna but about the trip as a whole. Neither her nor her sister had gone on a voyage like this since their parents died, or even been on a ship for a long period of time. She allowed her thoughts to drift back to the dreaded day she told her sister she had to take a trip to Corona.
"I will only be gone a couple of days, a week maximum." the blonde pleaded with her sister, trying to get her to stop crying. Holding her close to her and swaying slightly the queen stroked the hair of her sister and whispered comforts in her ears. "It's okay, it's okay Anna. I have got you." She was running out of ways to stop the princess's tears so in desperation she had pulled away from her sister and placed her lips against hers. This wasn't particularly unusual. As close sister they have shared a kiss or two here and there. A kiss goodnight, another one during a game once. But this one was different, it felt different, it felt real. Elsa didn't pull away in the amount of time that was considered sisterly and when Anna started to reciprocate the kiss, she had let it deepen.
There had been many kisses since that one, each sweeter than the last. And now that Elsa was slowly sailing away from her sister, she couldn't stop the ache of missing her that started in her gut and took over her whole body. She sat on the deck and prayed that she would make it back to her Anna, alive and well.
