Look, I don't ever talk about this stuff, but I need to tell someone.

Hi, my name is Twilight, and my new neighbor is a really popular pop singer.

Spike was the one who noticed her first. He said "Looks like someone new is moving in next door!"

I responded "I should let Pinkie know, so she can do her meet greet party thing."

Now, when I first saw her, I knew I recognized her from somewhere, but not because of her music. I don't listen to a ton of music, at least not pop.

Her names Red, and all throughout the party, I was trying to figure out where I recognized her from.

Then she performed.

Then it hit me.

I knew this girl, because she was a fellow student. I went to her parents funeral. I saw her there.

And this was just 2 years ago! On our (short) walk home, I asked Spike why I didn't remember the funeral. Spike says that we didn't stay long, but long enough to give our condolences to Red, and her foal sister at the time. Red's 18 right now, her sister Chloe is 4.

The next day, she came to our door. Asked if I could talk to her while Chloe played with Spike. She even remembered my name. She wanted to figure how much I knew about her, prior to the fame, and her parents death.

"Well," I said. "Where would you like me to start?"

"Anywhere you'd like. I would like to be closer to you, I haven't made many friends in my life, and now that I'm here, I'd like to change that."

"Okay, I'll start when I first met you, at the age of 10. You were an older girl in our class, 12 I believe you were, and you said in music one day that you really wanted to pursue a career in music, but you were scared that it wouldn't go well. I tried hanging out with you a couple of times, but I don't do friendships well and neither did you. You thought it was cool that I had a dragon. A couple years later, you told me and a couple other people that your mom was expecting another. I thought it was kinda cool, considering I'm the youngest. Then, a couple years later, Celestia informed me that your parents had passed. She wanted me and Spike to attend their funeral. Spike hadn't been feeling well, so we only stayed long enough to pay our condolences to you and your sister. I didn't know you well, but you thanked me for coming, and asked how Spike was. I told you he was a bit sick, and that we were only there for a couple of minutes. You thanked me anyway and said even a couple of minutes was okay. Then, yesterday, you moved here."

"Thank you, for telling me what you remember." She said. "No one ever really remembers what I was like in school, or even that I had said that I wanted a musical career. I don't hang out with anyone from that school, but since I met you, I knew that was going to be different. Chloe remembered Spike. That's all she remembered from the funeral, thankfully."

"What do you mean?" I asked. "Did something happen after I left?"

"Yes." She said. "My grandmother showed up. Demanding to take Chloe from my custody. My grandmother never liked me. Only ever Chloe. She ripped Chloe's dress, trying to take out of my arms. We had to call the authorities. I took months off of school. Had to go to therapy, file a restraining order, all because of my insane grandmother."

"Oh my," I said. It was clear that I was the only person other than her and her grandmother that knew about this. "If you ever need anything, I do my best to help."

"Likewise. I can't imagine a dragon being much harder to raise than a 4 year old." She said. I laughed.

She and Chloe went on their way, and Spike and I started getting ready for bed.

The next day, everything got real crazy.
