I fought my way to you.
I fought through the gates of hell,
Through legions of demons and God knows what else
To find you and bring you back
From the darkness into the light;
Where you belong.
I found you in the darkness.
I found you smiling in the midst of chaos.
You were happy there,
Happy in the darkness that consumed everything,
Everything that I fought;
You were happy.
I begged you to stop
I begged you to put down the knife
And step away from the souls you had scarred.
You smiled at me, blood in your teeth
And asked me for the key.
You wanted freedom.
If I let you out, the darkness would spread.
If I let you out, the world would suffer.
But I knew that leaving you there, alone,
No matter how happy you were-
Leaving you would destroy me,
It would kill me.
I closed the door.
I closed the escape and threw the key away.
You were happy to have company,
Happy to have an audience for once.
It repulsed me, but I couldn't lose you again.
So I stayed in the darkness with you.
