Rose gulped in a deep, shaky breath, taking her boyfriend's hands in hers.
"Do you think you're ready?" Rose asked pleadingly, crossing her fingers unconsciously.
Scorpius frowned, scratching his head. "I think so... well... umm... no, not at all. Sorry, Rosie."
Rose sighed. "Okay, we can review one more time. So the family tree goes like this: my grandparents are named Molly and Arthur-"
Scorpius listened to Rose talk on, wincing. She looked so excited, seated cross-legged on the couch of the compartment of the Hogwarts express. He didn't want to do this but he knew it would make it even worse if he waited.
Scorpius took a deep breath and trudged on. "Rose, stop."
Rose stopped mid-sentence, staring up at Scorpius in confusion.
"What's wrong, Scorp? Am I going too fast?" She asked worriedly. "Don't worry about whatever you messed up, we'll figure it out."
Scorpius bit his lip nervously. "Rose, I'm not talking about how fast you're speaking. I'm just not sure me meeting your parents is a good idea."
Rose looked like she was torn between crying and screaming at him. "Why? We agreed that it was time! Scorp, we've been dating for over a year."
"I can't!" Scorpius said, almost hysterically. "I can't do this. Rose, I'm so sorry."
Rose took a deep breath and willed her fists to unclench. Steadying herself visibly, she trudged on. "Scorpius, what's wrong?"
Looking at his girlfriend's tense stance, Scorpius felt worse than he had in his entire sixteen years of life. He couldn't do this to her. Sure, he was no Gryffindor, but he could be brave. "Rose, I'm scared. I've never felt the way I feel about you before and I don't want to ruin this. I know how much your parent's approval means to you and I'm so worried that I'll mess up and you'll never want to see me again."
Rose's face softened and she threw herself into Scorpius's lap. He barely caught her, falling off balance. "Scorp, I love you. No matter what my family thinks and says. It's not like it'll be the first time I've disappointed them- remember when I failed every class but divination to prove a point to my mom in the fourth year?"
"So I'm a disappointment now?" Scorpius teased and Rose stuck out her tongue at him. "I'm kidding. I love you Rose, no matter what classes you fail."
"I love you too, Scorp. Now, are you meeting my parents or not?" Rose asked, lifting a challenging brow.
Scorpius mentally prepared himself. "Yes."
