A/N Hey people! Hope the summer is going well for you all. Whether you're stuck at home or on vacation, spend your time wisely; summer doesn't last forever!
Alright, so here is a treat for all you Twilight fans. This oneshot takes place at the end of Twilight from Mike Newton's point of view. Okay, so it may not be the most interesting anecdote, but at least read through it.
I dedicate this oneshot to one of my dearest friends who has always supported me through my times of need and is a major Twilight fan as well. This one is for you M.S aka Super Squeaker!
Disclaimer: Twilight entirely belongs to Stephanie Meyer.
"Mike, would you like to dance?" A gentle whisper entered my mind. I shook my head and turned to Jessica Stanley, my date to the prom who had just returned from the restroom.
"Sure, Jess," I murmured as I offered my arm. We steered around the crowd and found a spot. I held her shoulder and hip as she clung onto my neck.
"You had your eyes on them back there" she muttered as we casually danced. I gulped and tried to think of an appropriate response. I knew exactly who she meant by them.
"Uh, yeah. This younger, tall kid came in and was talking to Bella when Edward interfered. It was quite a sight." Okay, so that wasn't really the reason I was staring, but it did really happen. I couldn't bear telling Jess the truth when she was having the time of her life at prom with the person she had always dreamed of being her date. Who happened to be me.
The only reason I asked Jess to be my date was for Bella Swan's sake; she told me that Jess really like me. Whether or not I cared, I honored Bella's request. Now that girl was my kind girl. With her pale complexion, brown flowing hair, and nice figure, it was so hard not to think about her. Despite refusing to be my date and ignoring my flirting, Bella still had a special place in my heart.
Don't get me wrong, I don't hate Jessica. I just loved her as a friend and nothing more. That's why I couldn't gather my courage to tell her my true feelings; her pain would just make matters worse. Besides, she may already be suspicious.
"Ah, I see." her eyes stared up at me hungrily. I smiled feebly and tried to evade her gaze. If only those eyes were Bella's.
I gazed across the gym at an intimate couple. There she was in a white cast on her leg but still looking hot in a blue dress. Edward Cullen, her date, held her warmly as he whispered into her ear. She giggled and smiled at him. As they chattered quietly, they danced like graceful swans.
Bile rose in my throat as my eyes regretfully took in the sight. Seeing Bella so jubilant did cheer me up, but I still couldn't help but hate Edward. Before Bella moved to Forks, I never really cared about him. However, when they started to hang out, my hatred towards him steadily formed.
I sighed and looked down at Jess. Well, I guess things could be worst. I could be dateless and stuck in a corner with a bunch of nerds.
Smiling down at her, I told Jess, "I'm really having a good time." Jess beamed up at me and pecked me on the lips with her soft ones.
"Same here, Mike. Thanks for being my date. You're such a sweetie; I always dreamed of this moment. I'm so glad that you want to get together with me."
She leaned on my shoulder with her curly hair masking half of my vision. I breathed in the fruity scent of her dark hair and kissed her on the head.
Maybe dating Jess for awhile wouldn't be so bad after all. And who knows, maybe Bella and Edward would break up soon. Then I would get my chance again.
Well, I hope you enjoyed this drabble! Don't forget to R&R!
Keep on having fun this summer everyone; I know I will. ;D
