The fire crackled in front of the elder man, the only place giving off heat in the cold forest around them. Beside him a woman sat leaning into him. She was beautiful in her own way, her red hair darkening in the fire's light and her blue skin looking black. They both could hear the other mutants around them, watching out of the corners of their eyes. The others didn't trust the pair from the Botherhood.

"Do you think he's alright?" whispered the blue-skinned women.

The man frowned, his brow pulling together. He did not want to frighten the mutant beside him, but he knew she wanted the truth.

"I'm sorry my dear, but I fear he isn't," he answered quietly. "Knowing how Mr. Stryker feels about us, Charles is mostly likely in a great deal of pain." The man closed his eyes at the words, feeling the dread and anger this knowledge brought him.

"I thought you would be happy about this, Magneto. Isn't that what you've been hoping for all these years?" Another woman said darkly, her white hair turned orange from the fire light.

"When have I ever given you that impression, Storm? For as along as I've known Charles I've never wanted to see him hurt," Magneto explained.

"That is very hard to believe, seeing as you and Mystique both have hurt the Professor is some way for as long as I've been around." A third women spoke, her red hair looking dull next to Mystique's.

"My dear Ms. Grey, any hurt that has been felt along these many years have be double sided. Whatever you may think of me, know that I care enough for Charles to hurt when he is hurt."

A moment went by when no words were exchanged, the tension between the two groups raising higher and higher until, with a huff, Storm stood up.

"No matter what you might say, Magneto. I don't trust you and I don't trust her. Know that I'll be watching you." With her threat given, Storm turned and entered her tent a few feet away.

Everything was quiet after Storm left, the tension not so strong. Mystique moved closer to Erik, getting comfort from his warmth.

"Do you ever regret it, Erik? The day we left?" Mystique said softy. She felt him sigh as his arm came around her.

"Yes, Raven, I do. I wish I could have done things differently on that beach, but we cannot undo the past."

Raven nodded and hugged Erik close before getting up. With a kiss to his forehead she left him alone.

Looking back at the fire, Erik tried to keep his mind blank. He knew that if he allowed himself, he'd drown in the what if's.

He really means a lot to you, doesn't he? It took a moment for Eric to realize that the words weren't spoken to him.

He looked up at Jean and thought back to her, yes, he does.

Nodding with a look in her eyes saying she understood more than he said, Jean stood up to walk away. Turning back before entering the same tent Storm had disappeared in, she thought, You must have really loved him and went inside.

Looking towards the fire again, Erik thought to himself, Yes, I really do.
