Snowflake Kisses
Chapter One: The First Kiss
His hands gently hover on her hips as her arms settle over his shoulders, fingers lacing behind his neck as they sway to the music. Nina is dressed in a modest purple dress with a black mini jacket over it that simply screamed Nina Martin in a way Fabian hadn't even realized was possible. Her personality is on display in that outfit, but Fabian is the only one who sees it and understands it. It's modest, not showing off too much of her body or her mind so no one had the chance to take advantage of her but still so beautiful that he couldn't keep his eyes off her.
Music played softly in the background and even through everyone was staring and dorky plastic crowns rested on their heads, the moment couldn't have been more perfect. It was finally prom and they finally had one chance to do what both of them had been waiting for. Kiss.
"So why did you go back down to the cellar?" Fabian asks, prying, not realizing what's on Nina's mind at the moment. All he knows is that his heart is racing a mile a minute as it tries to keep pace with his brain, which is so frazzled it can't even stay on a topic for more than a millisecond. Sweat moistened the palms of his hands, making them clammy as he feels his lips dry out. Suddenly, he's hyper aware of everything. His proximity to Nina, how fast his heart is beating, how dry his lips are, and how overwhelmingly nervous he is. The corsage on her wrist tickles his cheek as he lean forward while asking the question.
"All that can wait," Nina tells him as she shakes her head slightly, dismissing the question and swallowing her fear. She knows the last thing she should be doing right now is thinking and running everything that could go wrong through her mind. They could bump noses and people will laugh. Or, even worst of all, Fabian might not kiss her back. She could have gotten this all wrong and Fabian is only interested in being her friend, nothing more.
Oh, God, what if I make a fool of myself in front of everyone. He might not like me. I might be a terrible kisser. So much could go wrong! Nina frets before she manages to push all of the panicked thoughts to the back of her mind so she can focus on all that matters right now. Fabian.
"This can't…" With that she moves in closer and pulls Fabian in as well, which she hardly even has to since he does so of his own accord. In the background she can vaguely hear the singer of what's ever playing say "You're the best thing in my life…" but then their lips met and the rest of the world doesn't matter anymore. His hands tighten slightly on her waist, but she doesn't mind as his lips oh so gently press up against hers. Warmth flows through her as the brief second their lips lock feels like its eternity; an eternity that she never wants to leave.
She turns to look at the cheering crowd once they break apart and a nervous laugh escapes her lips as she does her best to keep her knees from buckling. Her heart is pounding and everything feels so surreal.
I hope this isn't a dream…
