Lindsay made her way to the train station. Not thinking. Not breathing. She sees many familiar faces and she walks past them. As she stood in front of the door of the train, she heard voices called out her name. Lindsay turned around to put faces to those voices; she made out her best friends, Madison and Ariel and her former colleagues. But one face made a tear go down her face. It was that of her colleague turned best friend turned boyfriend turned 'just colleagues'. The train was about to leave so Lindsay made her way in but as soon as she was entering the first carriage, a voice...a single, identifiable voice called out three words, 'A Thousand Miles'. Without thinking twice, Lindsay ran out the train with tears flowing down her face and right into the arms of the beholder of three words.
"Danny...I..."
"Shh...Sing for me"
Lindsay didn't have to ask what song nor object. She just sang with her heart and soul, "Making my way downtown, walking fast, faces past and I'm homebound. Staring blankly ahead, just making my way, making my way, through the crowd. And I'll need you. And I'll miss you. And now I wonder, if I could fall, into the sky, do you think time, would pass me by...'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles if I can just see you...tonight."
Danny continued the second verse "Its times like these when I think of you, and I wonder if you ever think of me. Cause everything's so wrong, don't belong, living in your precious memory. Cause I'll need you, cause I'll miss you. And now I wonder, if I could fall, into the sky, do you think time, would pass me by...'Cause you know I'd walk a thousand miles if I can just see you...tonight."
By this time, the silent lovers had tears running down their faces and they were both laughing silently. Then Danny parted from the moment.
"Mon...Lindsay, you're gonna miss your train. Go. Call me when you're homebound."
"Call me Montana for the last time...please Danny"
Danny didn't reply...he just turned away and this made Lindsay's heart break. Before she could even react, the whistle blew indicating the train was leaving. She made a split second decision and ran towards Danny- she had decided to stay. When she finally caught up with him, she repeated what she had said earlier and stopped:
"Call me Montana for the last time...please" Lindsay took a deep breath "Some people live, for the fortune. Some people live just for the fame. Some people live for the power yeah. Some people live just to play the game. Some people think that the physical things define what's within, and I've been there before, and that life's a bore...so full of the superficial. And some people want it all...Everything means nothing if I ain't got you."
Danny stopped in his tracks and heard a sweet sound and song to go along with it. Lindsay was singing 'If I Ain't Got You'. He turned around and smiled. Lindsay continued singing the song off by heart. She paused when a smile touched her heart. Lindsay then started singing a new song
"Hey mom, why didn't you tell me? Why didn't you teach me a thing or two? You just let me go, out into the world. You never thought to share what you knew. So I walked under a bus, I got hit by a train. Keep falling in love, which is kind of the same..."
"I told you not to sing that song!"
"But why? It describes who I am..."
"Just kidding." Danny kissed Lindsay's temple
Lindsay was in his arms, singing some more songs with her boyfriend and they were making their way to Danny's SUV. The whole time, Danny kept his left hand in his jeans pocket.
"What's in your pocket?" Lindsay asked...her head on his shoulder.
"Nothin' just cold...that's all" Danny lied...the truth is, it was a diamond ring.
