Amy loved the zoo. And she was very happy to discover Sheldon did too.

They frequently spent a date night there, trawling around the different enclosures late at night, watching the interactions between different animals. Of course, Amy was no stranger to animal behaviour, but experiencing it at a leisurely pace was one she enjoyed, especially as she now had someone to go with.
One of these zoo trips stuck in her memory the most. It begun like any trip, with Sheldon obsessively washing his hands before even entering the zoo grounds. She complied, as she felt it made him less anxious. They began their usual route, pacing through the fish (Sheldon would recall the time he created fish night lights) and birds (since his experience with the bluejay, Sheldon was much more comfortable around them), each of them anticipating their favourite enclosure.
Eventually, they arrived at the first- the koala enclosure. Amy smiled as Sheldon entered the room, and his expression became tranquil and happy. The koalas were munching away on eucalyptus, lounging against the trees.
"Are you melting inside?" Amy questioned Sheldon
"Very much so" he replied calmly , his eyes fixated on the marsupials.
After a ten minutes, Amy grabbed his hand to signal his time was up.
"Was that really five minutes?" He queried, checking his watch.
"Well, more like ten, but you were so happy I couldn't bear to tell you" she said, grasping his hand tighter.
"but now we're behind schedule!" Sheldon exclaimed.
"Don't worry, I believe we spent less time in the aviary so were right on time", she said as she pulled Sheldon along.
"Alright" he conceded, walking along beside her.
He didn't seem to notice their hands were entwined, so Amy didn't let go. It was rare for this to happen.
Then, Amy was excited. Around the corner, was her personal favourite; monkeys.
Sheldon let go of her hand as they entered, allowing her to pace ahead.
Amy spent her five minutes watching the monkeys on display as they played on ropes and ate fruit. Alas, she felt Sheldon behind her exactly five minutes later.
Both of them were content- they had been on schedule, saw their animals and still had time to spare.
They made their way back to the entrance of the park where the shop was situated.
Sheldon had an idea.
"Wait here" he commanded, pointing Amy to a nearby bench.
"Why?" She queried
"I'll be three minutes" he said as he began to walk away.
Curious, Amy thought.
Two and a half minutes later, she felt her phone vibrate.
"Close your eyes" the text read. It was from Sheldon.
She could just about see him at the shop entrance, and noticed him nod. She closed her eyes.
The next minute, she could hear footsteps getting closer and closer, until they stopped.
"Ok, open" Sheldon commanded.
As Amy opened her eyes, she gasped. Sheldon was holding a soft toy monkey, similar to Ricky (without the cigarette, of course)
"You..got this for me?" She questioned.
"I don't know who else likes monkeys as much as you do" Sheldon replied as he passed it to her.
"But why?"
"Well, you allowed me to stay double my time allocated in the koala enclosure, and I didn't return the favour. This is I guess my way of doing so"
Amy was grinning from ear to ear. She looked up at Sheldon.
"Thankyou" she said, jumping up and holding his hand.
"And..." Sheldon looked at his watch "we are perfectly on time"
Yes, it had been the perfect end to a perfect evening.
