"It's one drink. Why is that a problem? Who am I being faithful to?"
Was she really ready to move on? Turns out the answer was "no"...
She had been ready to move on from Peter for some time, but of course she had good reasons to keep up the cover - not that she was planing on getting back together with him, but she had learned her lesson that connections are important to ones career...
Was she ready to move on from Will? He had told her once "I love you, I have loved you ever since Georgetown"... She hadn't gotten the message then, but of course she knew... She had desperately tried to get away from this truth just so she would not have to acknowledge how she really felt about him. She had tried to focus on her career to try and forget about how hollow she felt, but how could she? She knew exactly what her feelings were for him, but would she ever be able to open up the way he did? Be vulnerable like he was? Or was she just too used to keeping up her protective armour that she would never allow herself to admit those feelings...
...and then there was Finn - no, she certainly had no history with him as she did with Will, but he was so much less of a person who was putting up walls, he was so much more willing to put his feelings out there, even if sometimes aided by narcotics, that she just could not help but feel but that he would be an important part of her life - in due time...
Well, if she thought about it - she was ready to move on - just not to what Daniel was offering. Yes, he was certainly attractive, but what was it actually that he had offered - "I am not into getting tangled up in anything - but I still want to have a drink with you" - was this really just an invitation to drinks or did he have something else in mind? Whatever he was actually going for, it was not what she would need to become herself again...
She had told her mom "I don't know if I want to be a lawyer anymore" - after 5 years of fighting she had come to a point in her career where she had proven she could be all that, and more, but what is it that really drove her? She conceded it was not just being a successful lawyer - she saw herself where she had seen Will when she joined SLG 5 years ago - more than a little burned out, but being around the right kind of person bringing out the best in him - she wanted that, certainly more than just a hollow affair ...
So she did the only thing she could do, she turned and walked away from drinks - and she full well knew the answer to her own question - she knew she was being faithful to Will's idea of her, the idea of having someone in your life you are truly meant to be with, against all odds, and despite all the obvious obstacles...
