It was April 12th and Frieda Petrenko, Penny Valentine and Michael Spence were running to a major incident where a train crashed into the platform during rush hour. Just before they climbed into the rapid response car, Frieda pulled Penny around the back.

"Frieda? What are you doing?" Penny asked.

Frieda took a deep breath and looked into Penny's eyes, "Penny, before we go, I need to tell you something…"

"What is it, Frieda?" Penny asked, arms crossed.

Then Frieda did something very un-Frieda-like, she lurched forward and pressed her lips to Penny's in a short sweet kiss. Frieda pulled back. "Now you know."

"W-what?" Penny stammered.

"I've waisted so much time denying these feelings I have for you. I'm completely and utterly besotted with you." Frieda blurted out.

"You love me?"

Frieda gave a small smile and lifted her pale hand to stoke Penny's cheek, "I've loved you for months. Persephone Valentine, will you be my girlfriend?"

"Let me think about this for today?" Penny asked. "I'll tell you at the end of the shift, okay?" she leaned in and lightly kissed Frieda before walking to the door and hopping in.

Later…

Penny was crawling under a carriage when it started creaking ominously. As she worked on the patient, she pulled out her mobile and dialled Frieda's voicemail. She tucked the phone under her ear.

"…after the tone…"

"Um, hi Frieda, I'm sorry, I love you so much. Yes I, Persephone Valentine, love you, Frieda Petrenko. If I don't make it out from under this carriage, remember me and please take care of my bonehead brother. That's all I ask." She hung up the phone and pocketed it. "I love you, Frieda, I'm sorry, goodbye." A tear was the last thing she felt before her world went black.

Later…

Frieda was in shock. Penny was dead! The love of her life was dead! She was sat in the locker room and thinking of how much waisted time had gone. Frieda heard a vibrating coming from her locker, got up and opened her locker. Her phone was vibrating as it had a voicemail message on it. Frieda tapped the voicemail number in and put the phone to her ear. The voice that answered brought tears to her eyes.

"Um, hi Frieda, I'm sorry, I love you so much. Yes I, Persephone Valentine, love you, Frieda Petrenko. If I don't make it out from under this carriage, remember me and please take care of my bonehead brother. That's all I ask."

"I will remember you, Penny, and I'll keep an eye on your boneheaded brother." Frieda said over her shoulder.

Twenty years to the day…

A forty seven year old Frieda Petrenko walked the familiar route to Penny's grave, a small smile on her lips as she thought of what she was about to do.

She knelt in front of the tombstone, pulled a switchblade knife out of her pocket and flipped the blade out which she promptly drew across her pale wrists, blood dripping into the damp soil. As the blood continued to flow, Frieda's eyes saw a sight she'd been dying (no pun intended) to see for twenty years, Penny smiling gently at her in a white dress. Penny glided over to her and put her hand out to Frieda who lifted her hand to take it and as soon as they made contact, Frieda's physical body collapsed to the ground, dead, as Penny and Frieda faded into the afterlife where they spent the rest of eternity in blissful happiness.
