Disclaimer: I don't own it, I just love it.
Enjoy:
James sighed. It had not been an easy week, attacks all over the place and the ministry going haywire and trying to blame it on the aurors. He ran his hands through his hair and closed his eyes, willing some of the stress away.
He needed to sleep. Yes, sleep was good. He practically crawled up the stairs and into the large king sized bed he had insisted upon when he and Lily got married. He collapsed on it beside her lightly breathing form, without bothering to take off his shoes or change from his work robes.
His wife blinked lazily at him as he had plonked down beside her, an idle, loving smile graced her beautiful features as she gazed up through droopy eyes at her husband.
"Night love" she giggled sleepily and pulled him back down, snuggling into his front, and promptly falling back into light slumber.
James kissed the top of her head and shut his eyes, for the first time that day feeling sated and whole, complete with the woman he loved. Thought slipped away and a dreamless sleep overtook him, pulling his mind far away from consciousness.
James opened his eyes the next morning. There was an empty space next to him as his arm wandered, looking for something that wasn't there. The hazy morning sun streamed through the curtains and he stretched, yawned and padded lightly down the stairs.
Lily stood in the kitchen; Harry balanced on one hip and a tray of food on the other. Her long red hair fell in a tangled mess across her face and Harry grabbed happily at it, making James smile.
"I was just about to bring you breakfast but you beat me to it dear." She looked rather guilty, James stepped forward and tugged the tray of the hip upon which it was balanced. He took them both in his arms and he hugged them, pecking Lily on the lips and Harry on the nose, drawing a blush from Lily and a happy gurgle from Harry.
James felt full to the brim, overflowing with love for his family, for Lily and for Harry, now nine months, and a surge of pride and hope. They were going to get through this together, he was sure.
"Thanks, love. Shall we eat breakfast then?"
James pulled Lily and Harry over to the table and sat them down, taking Harry from Lily and placing him on his lap, supporting the baby with one arm and pulling a plate of eggs and bacon towards him.
James Potter was sure of one thing now, even if the war waged around them and attacks occurred, they would stay strong. The love that held his family together was far more than enough to hold of any dark lord.
He sighed, tickled little Harry, and went back to eating his eggs. He would think about that later. Now, he had his family to love and their whole future ahead of them.
You like? I'm feeling really sentimental right now.
Review! means a lot to me :-)
