This is probably my very first happy piece of writing. Eh, it's not THAT happy, but…well, I'm more into tragedy. Drop a review, leave a fave, and all ladies get a dinner with Loke (or so I was told). Gentlemen...eh, Lucy, give 'em Aquarius. They'll have lots of fun, won't they?
Scritch scritch scratch.
Lucy's pen trailed elegant, swooping letters on her paper. It was comforting to the blonde-haired mage to feel ink smoothly bleeding out of the pen.
Even more reassuring was the fact that there was a chestnut tree swaying gently over her head. The branches and leaves formed a dome over her head, supplying shade from the intense gaze of the sun. And this was not any chestnut tree, for Lucy had proudly grown it herself, taking great care of it every day. It had taken several months for it to get that big, and she loved to sit under it – it gave her inspiration and calmed her down like green tea.
"Lucyyy!" A certain pink-haired dragon slayer was running across the clearing to her, a grin wide on his face. A smile tugged at the corners of the spirit mage's mouth, and she quickly wrote down a few more lines in her notebook before closing it and standing up.
Natsu had clearly run a very long way. He was breathing in little puffs of air – Lucy made sure to keep a safe distance away from him – with Natsu, you never knew when he would suddenly explode into flames.
He scratched the back of his head and grinned at Lucy toothily. She felt just the tiniest traces of a blush appearing on her cheeks, and she mentally slapped herself. I do NOT like Natsu in that way, stupid subconscious!
"Uh…so…Lucy, I was wondering if you…um…" Natsu suddenly stared at his feet, which had curiously began to shuffle. "I was wondering if…"
"Yes?" Lucy leaned in rather eagerly, and Natsu chuckled nervously, scratching his head. "If you would -"
"Natsuuuu!" Something silver and wet flew past the two, landing with a thwak in the higher branches of the tree, completely entangled with the smaller pieces of wood. Happy flew by, tears streaming down his face. "Natsuuu…the fish escaped…"
"Dammit Happy, that was supposed to be our dinner!"
"Uwah…I know…and I doubt I can get it out…"
Lucy chuckled. How did it "escape" if it was already caught? She wanted to ask Happy, but Natsu interrupted her.
"Alright then, I have a solution!" He grinned and lit his fist aflame. Lucy laughed. "Go on, then, I'd like to see how you'll manage to get it out with fire."
She found herself staring at the fire dragon slayer. The way he smiled, talked, laughed…it all made her heart beat faster…
If it weren't for a small nagging feeling at her heart, Lucy might as well have been entranced. It was then when Natsu drew his fist back that Lucy realized with a jolt of horror what he was about to do.
"Fire Dragon's…!"
"No! Don't!" Lucy ran frantically toward him.
"IRON FIST!"
The tree practically exploded as Natsu slammed his flame-coated fist into the tree. With a shuddering groan, it toppled over, branches flailing wildly.
And it just so happened that the fish plopped out in from of them, dead but unharmed. With a squeal of delight, Happy rushed forward and scooped it up in his paws. He high-fived Natsu, who turned around, grin wider than ever.
"Well, Lucy? How's…that?" The happy look on his face faded away as he realized Lucy was shaking, hair shadowing her face and fists clenched together tightly. "Luce?"
She finally turned toward him, a twisted smile on her face. Natsu and Happy backed away nervously. "Luce? What's wrong?"
Lucy suddenly exploded toward him in a flurry of punches and Lucy kicks. The cat – Exceed, whatever – and the dragon slayer did the best thing possible – they ran.
"NATSUUUUU!"
It's up to you whether or not he survives!
