A/N: The song used is Second Star to the Right sung by Jonatha Brooke. I saw a picture of Ginny and beside it was written "I can't help but wonder how she must have felt like when fred died- she is so close to the twins in the books, after all", so I decided to try it. Please review. If you feel like she wasn't portrayed very well, let me know. Thank you.
Second Star to the Right
The second star to the right
Shines in the night for you
To tell you that the dreams you plan
Really can come true
"Fred? George?" The twins looked up from their bunk beds to the small shadow in the doorway. Ginny had a small black bear, the one she couldn't sleep without, hanging loosely at her side.
"What's wrong, Gin" Fred asked softly. He picked up the girl and sat her on his lap.
"Bad dream?" Said George. He hopped off the ladder and sat down beside his siblings. Ginny nodded and wiped her eyes on the sleeve of her night gown.
"It's okay. Nothing can hurt you, now." Fred rubbed his sisters back to calm her. "Besides, only the good dreams come true."
"Really?" The six year old asked. Her brothers nodded and lay her down on the lower bunk. George kissed the top of her head before turning out the light. All three fell asleep within seconds.
The second star to the right
Shines with a light that's rare
And if it's Never Land you need
Its light will lead you there
"Percy!" The scream rang through the house, quickly followed by footsteps racing down the stairs.
"What happened?" Percy choked out. "Is someone hurt? Why did you scream?"
"Ron won't give me my jumper!" He rolled his eyes and snatched the pale blue jumper from Ron's hands. "I'm in charge while everyone is out so you had better listen to me or we're all going to get in trouble."
"Yes, Mum." Ron teased. Ginny smirked and ran back to her room. Just as she was about to open her door, she saw her brother come out of the washroom.
"Percy," The older groaned and turned around. "Do you think I'll see Harry Potter at Hogwarts? When I get there, I mean."
"I guess so. But that's not for another year."
Ginny opened her door with a nod and flopped back on her bed, pulling her teddy bear to her chest and a smile on her lips.
Twinkle, twinkle little star
So I'll know where you are
Gleaming in the skies above
Lead me to the land I dreamed of
Ginny glanced behind her and, with a deep breath, pulled Neville onto the marble floor. She smiled softly when he took her waist. Her smile broadened as she was twirled across the dance floor, letting her dress flow around her. It wasn't until Neville offered to get them some punch that she saw any of her brothers. She waved at Fred and George who were standing off to the side talking with their dates. They waved her older and gave her a hug.
"So, Sis. How's old Longbottom doing?" George said with a nudge. She rolled her eyes but kept smiling.
"Well, for your information, he isn't all that bad." She looked behind her and watched Neville pour the drinks.
"Not as good as Harry, I'd bet." Fred muttered to his brother. Ginny ignored them and left to go back with Neville.
And when our journey is through
Each time we say "Goodnight"
We'll thank the little star that shines
The second from the right
Ginny held on to her brother's hand. Both were quiet. They were the only ones not crying as they watched Fred's body get lowered into the ground. The only noise at all was their mother's sniffling. George looked down at her. He squeezed her hand as she rested her head on his shoulder. He let her ginger hair tickle his neck and whispered to her.
"He'll never leave us." He said. Her grip on the little black bear tightened. "I know he won't."
