Not just a toy?
A/N: Mike and Harvey's relationship is complex yet simple. Tell me what you guys think, shoot me a review.
Mike rushed into Harvey's office, ignoring the look he received for not knocking but waited shifting feet until the man got off the phone.
"Mike, what did I tell you about knocking?"
"Look what I got!" He showed the man a small figurine. It was Harry Potter, lightning scar, glasses, and wand. At the raised eyebrow he almost shoved it in the man's face.
"Look!"
He loved how Harvey laughed. He allowed the man to hold the small figurine and examine it in more detail. He saw how Harvey was extremely careful in holding it.
"I found it at a thrift store for a couple bucks!" he exclaimed excited. "Can you believe it?"
Harvey smiled softly and listened as Mike retold him in exact detail how he came across his find. He was just telling him about how he found a site where you can get limited edition merchandise and how he really wanted to save up for a particular piece when they were interrupted by the phone ringing.
"Hold up, Mike." Mike pouted but waited, messing around with his figurine.
"Harvey Spector. Jessica what can I do for you? I see. We'll get on it. I'm going to ignore your lack of faith. Uhuh. Okay…bye."
Mike opened his mouth to continue but Harvey was already coming out of his chair pulling on his jacket. "Come on, Mike, we have a case."
"But Harvey…I haven't even gotten to the best part. You can customize it…"
"Yes, I know. You can tell me on the way." He nodded at Donna as they walked by. Mike waving. "Bye Donna."
"Bye Mike, Harvey take care of the puppy."
"Don't worry Donna, I'm just taking my puppy for a walk." He chuckled at Mike's pronounced pout.
In revenge he made sure to tell Harvey all about his Harry Potter theories.
By the time they reached the client's business, Harvey looked exhausted. "So Harvey, this man is getting accused of stealing a very expensive collectible and he's getting sued for his business?"
"Yup."
"What did he steal?"
Harvey shrugged, but answered, "I'm not sure, it wasn't on the file. But it's not much use."
They walked in and the greeter, a young woman, with a name tag which said "Carmen" told them to take a look around the store as they waited for Mr. Loman to come down.
Mike was blown away by all the collectibles. He grabbed Harvey's hand and started leading him everywhere, very much like an overexcited puppy. Harvey let himself be pulled along.
They reached an area where limited edition comic books lay. They had been laminated and encased. Mike was so enthusiastic that when he picked one up he gave himself one hell of a papercut.
"Oh god." Mike started sniffling at once. Harvey started wrapping it up with his handkerchief. It wasn't deep but it was painful. He was already clogging and no stitches would be needed but he gave a soft sob looking up at Harvey with a pained expression.
Harvey immediately brought him into a hug and gave him a kiss on the forehead gripping him tight against him. "Shh, Mike. It's okay. It's just a cut."
"Are you two alright?" Mike looked up at the new voice. A man in his early thirties was standing there in shock.
Harvey as always took charge of the situation. "Mr. Loman, I apologize but I think we'll have to reschedule. My associate has had a small incident." Mike shook his head weakly. "No Harvey, I'll just wait in the car."
Harvey looked as though he was debating it but frowned and shook his head, "Nope, you're staying in my sight. Let's get to business quickly Mr. Loman."
Mike sat in a seat next to Harvey disinterested as he and Mr. Loman went through the game plan. Mike still hadn't let go of the man's hand and was currently absentmindedly playing with his fingers. Getting bored with that he held onto his hand singlehandedly and took out his figurine which he had placed in his jacket pocket before leaving.
He heard Harvey concluding the conversation and shaking hands with Mr. Loman, with his left hand instead of his usual right and stood up to say goodbye to the client as well. They were just getting in the car when Harvey said he forgot something and would be right back. He squeezed Mike's hand and murmured comforting words before leaving. Mike wished he wouldn't but didn't want to seem like a baby.
He came back soon enough with a comforting smile but with no noticeable change. However, he didn't want to ask, he had no energy.
He closed his eyes, not paying attention to the path they were taken. They arrived at the hospital and without asking, Harvey was getting him out and in as quickly as possible. He asked and answered all questions posed by the nurse, he filled out all the paperwork, asking Mike questions when he didn't know, frowning at his subpar insurance and claiming that would change soon, and before he knew it he was sitting on a hospital bed, shifting on the crinkly paper as a doctor cleaned and examined his wound. No stitches would be needed and just gauze would be needed to cover it from infections.
He felt the weight of Harvey's hands on his shoulders and felt reassured that he wasn't on his own.
After being prescribed some antibiotics he was released. Harvey tugged him close and whispered in his ear. "You'll be staying with me tonight." There was no discussion. He nodded and they left.
After arriving and changing into some of Harvey's old clothes, the few that would fit him still looked several sizes too big.
Harvey set him up into his guest bedroom but after a few minutes of just lying there he got up and went to Harvey's room. The light was off and he had to squint to be able to see. Harvey was under the covers facing the door, fast asleep. There was a lot of space and he didn't even think as he started to lift the covers and slide inside. He was trying to be silent and careful that he almost screamed when Harvey grabbed him and pulled his back against his chest, spooning him. There was nothing sexual about it, just something extremely comforting about his warmth. He didn't saw a word to him but within a few minutes they both fell asleep and stayed asleep.
Mike woke up snuggled against Harvey's side, leg over his waist and nose buried in his neck. He slowly pulled apart and froze when he saw Harvey was very much away and staring at him.
"Morning."
There was silence as Harvey looked deep into his eyes, his eyes crinkling as he said, "Morning puppy. Now I know you are a true little pup as you kick your feet and snuggle like one."
Mike blushed and reached over to hit him with a pillow which brought out a hearty laugh from Harvey. "Oh, Mike, come on. Breakfast."
He shot out of bed and rushed to the kitchen leaving Mike momentarily frozen until he too, took off running and skidded to a stop at the kitchen counter. He hopped on and looked expectedly to Harvey. He gave the famous puppy face and Harvey gave a small sigh. Minutes later they were both munching on some pancakes and coffee and Harvey was handing him his pills. He helped him change his gauze and soon they were on their way to the office, with Mike's promise that he'd stay in Harvey's office and would tell him if he was feeling off.
Once there they started going through files to help Mr. Loman prove his collectibles were all obtain legally. Mike was getting tired when he felt something being placed in his hand. It was a small figurine, he couldn't believe it, it was the one he had heard of, there was only a few in existence. Of course Mr. Loman would have one as well. Oh but it must have cost…
"Harvey! But it's…too much. It was probably expensive."
"Hmm."
"Harvey!"
His face was framed by Harvey's hands, forcing him to look him straight in the eye. "I know how much it meant to you to someday get it, and you were hurt on my watch, besides after seeing us together yesterday Loman gave me a sizable discount." Mike couldn't take it and threw himself at Harvey, probably wrinkling a thousand dollar suit in the process but not caring.
"You're the best!"
"Don't ever change kid."
"Huh, but you're always complaining about my age and how I wear my heart on my sleeve."
"It's true. And as a lawyer I can see all the trouble it'll cause us both, but as a friend and as family, it killed me to see you all despondent and subdued yesterday." He tightened his hold and Mike snuggled deeper. "You have a spark, pup, and I'm going to make sure you don't lose it anytime soon.
When they broke apart Mike went to Harvey's desk and placed his hand in his pocket retrieving his small figurine. He placed it on his desk knowing that Harvey would never remove it, even if it didn't match his style and even if he'd ordinarily wouldn't want it there.
They went back to work.
Later that week as Mike was making his way to Harvey's office he saw Louis leaving it, saying as he went, "I still don't get why you have a silly fantasy figurine on your desk but I guess we can't all be refined." To which Harvey replied, "It's a classic Louis and my tastes are impeccable, oh and next time you touch something of mine, especially that extremely important figurine, I'm cutting off you hand and you can explain to Jessica why you're one handed."
He paused and almost got ran over by the man but smiled when he heard his the man murmur under his breath.
He didn't mention it as he walked in, just handed Harvey the files he wanted. He did however, eye the figurine that hadn't moved from the spot. It meant a lot to him. More than Harvey would ever know.
