The Leap
Disclaimer: I wish, but no, I don't own the characters/show.
Spoilers: Season 3 - "Kali 3."
Author's Note: I couldn't help myself; this scene was just so poignant and inspiring.
He wasn't ready to die. Not yet, anyway.
He always figured his number would come up sometime in this line of work, he just hadn't expected it to be so soon. After all, his career choice wasn't one most people simply retired from after thirty or so years.
He can feel the poison in his body that, despite her best efforts, is still reaping havoc, and he knows it won't be long.
Which was why when he first heard her idea for getting through to Kali, he was ready to agree to one last-ditch effort before he bit the big one. The way he saw it he was a dead man walking anyway, why not save the world one last time? The rub was, however, that there was no guarantee that he'd actually get to see the goddess in question, much less convince her in time.
A leap of faith, indeed.
She is so confident, so Magnus, he wants to believe it will work, but another doubt still niggles at the back of his mind.
He expresses this doubt, and while he probably shouldn't be surprised at the power of her reaction, he is nonetheless.
He's been part of the family, her family, for two years now, but sometimes he still needs to be reminded that he's not alone. A hard habit to break after years of being just that: alone.
It's nice to be so firmly reminded that he has something to come back to, someone.
When he finally meets her eyes through the screen, the determination is there, but so is the resolve, the resolve to come back. She smiles and for a moment he wishes like hell she was there with him, guiding him through it like she has in so many other things, but only a moment; they both have jobs to do.
"Okay," he breathes, "let's do this."
