"Axel sweetie, look at what mommy got you!"

The annoying bell around his furry neck rang as he trotted to meet the unfamiliar scent tickling his sensitive nose.

"A baby brother!"

Green eyes looked up at the box Demyx was holding. He could sense the presence of anouther being within its confinements. His curiosity was definitely peaked. With a quick meow and leap, he landed on the counter, pawing at the box.

"Mew..."

Quiet, unsure, frightened, yet almost challenging, as if a warning not to push him. It only excited Axel further.

"Woah, easy boy! Here, lemme help you... there! Out you go little fella. C'mon, meet Axel. Okay, fine, be like that." Kneeling on the floor of the kitchen, the young male scooped a small ball of yellow fur out of the corner of the cardboard box and promptly plopped him on the tiled floor in front of Axel.

Immediately the red and brown cat was all over tiny yellow one, knocking him on his back as he pawed at him and sniffed him all over. An array of meows and mews were sounded, the small cat shoving at Axel, biting at his legs. Axel cared not and continued scrutinizing him until his face wound up between his legs and Demyx pulled him off. "Be polite! You two only just met! Now, Roxas, this is Axel. Say hi to Axel." He held him in his lap and held his little white paw, moving it up and down at Axel as if to make him wave.

Demyx kept talking back and forth to them, but the two cats, well, cat and kitten ignored him and proceeded to converse.

"Roxas, is it?"

"Yes..."

"Where're you from?"

"I'm only a few months... They were going to do something bad to me because I was the littlest, but he- this guy saved me. And brought me here to you... Please don't hurt me." Roxas was all big blue eyes, staring into Axel's deep green ones. Axel sat in front of him, looking down at him in Demyx's lap, an innocent kitten, quivering slightly, and whiskers just a twitch with every other passing breath, awaiting his judgment.

Then Axel rubbed his face under Roxas', purring steadily, nuzzling up to his soft ear.

Axel felt overwhelmingly warm. Roxas couldn't help but almost fall out of Demyx's lap as he leaned forward to meet the comfort, landing on Axel's paws dumbly.

"Mew..."

The cat smiled a cat smile and leaned down, batting Roxas gently onto his side and snuggled him close, licking him clean.

"Aw, you two will be great friends, I knew it would all work out." Demyx proudly grinned, admiring the two creatures.

Roxas drifted off into a cozy sleep, pressed against Axel, falling contently victim to the rhythm of his rising and falling chest. His heartbeat was his lullaby.
