Hey everyone. As per a request from someone who's read this story before, I'll be putting it back on FF again. Unfortunately, I haven't revised it past the original when it first came out but I still hope you all enjoy it, again, I guess :)

Crimson Daydreamer, this one's for you.

DISCLAIMER: I do not own Kingdom Hearts or any of the characters.

What?

I-I don't remember much right now. All I know is that I'm in school. I would've liked to tell you my story, but I'm trying to remember myself. This is so much harder than I thought.

Let's start with the basics. My name is Kairi and today is the last day of my junior year of high school. My teachers are nice people and even though everyone won't agree with me, they know it's true. They told me to have a safe summer. Somehow, I think I've already let them down.

I also know that I'm alone at home. I remember my dad saying that he was going on vacation with my…soon-to-be stepmother. I know what you must be thinking. Oh! Kairi, you hate your stepmother, don't you? Don't get me wrong; I don't hate my stepmother. It's just…my mother died two months ago in a car accident, so it's all still very new to me. My stepmother was with my father through it all and even though I act like I don't like her, they know otherwise. I told my dad that I don't want to know her name. When he asked why, I told him that I don't want to know until I'm a bit more comfortable with the whole thing. He just smiled and hugged me and told me, "Everything's going to be fine."

Leon…

That's my dad's name. Leon…I think.

My friends care about me as well. S…Sora, Riku, and I have been friends from my freshman year although I knew Riku from before and he's a year older than us. Naminé, my best friend, is an amazing artist. She's been in the same class with me and for as long as I could remember, she has had a crush on Roxas. Roxas is Sora's cousin and he plays the piano beautifully. In our eyes, no one can compare. I also remember Riku introducing us to…Xion. She was nice to us and Riku seemed to like her a lot.

I think those are my closest friends. I hope I have their stories straight…

Unlike my other friends, Sora and I have a…different relationship. We have been going out for four months now. He was there when my mother died and he has helped me through so much. I still remember the day he met my parents. My mother pinched his cheeks while my dad just stared at him. The conversation was something unforgettable (So why did I almost forget it?).

"So you're dating my daughter," my dad said more as a statement than a question.

"Yes," Sora answered truthfully.

"Why?"

Sora was taken aback. I was a bit surprised as well.

"Well…" Sora answered, "Why not?"

My dad narrowed his eyes a bit before Sora continued, "I've know her since freshman year and I've found her to be a kind and caring person. Who's good at math," this is where he looked at me, "although she's a bit aggressive," that's where my jaw dropped, "I'll always love her."

Yes. After years of "does he like me?" and being friends, he just said he loved me. For the first time…But in front of my dad!

My dad looked at us before his gaze softened.

"Come on Leon," my mother told him, "let's go."

My father didn't argue as he left us there.

That was probably one of the happiest days of my life and I almost forgot it.

What's happening to me?

Since I was so collected in my thoughts, I didn't notice where I was going. As I looked again, I realized that I was right outside the school and walking towards my house.

"KAIRI!" Riku yelled as he ran towards me.

I turned around to see him running full speed. It didn't look like he was going to stop so I waved my hands.

"Ri-!" He ran right through me. "…-ku?"

I'm so much more confused now.

I looked to see where he ran off to but all I saw was a big mess of people.

I also saw a car on the sidewalk.

Selphie was inside it. She looked shocked. Tidus and Wakka were trying to talk to her and trying to get her out. Both her hands were on the steering wheel but her right hand also held her cell phone.

That's never a good sign.

I walked over to where Riku was. Sora was leaning over a body, crying. Riku had tears streaming down his face as well. He also had a hand on Sora's back, trying to calm him down. Across from them sat Xion. She had her right hand covering her mouth as tears escaped her as well.

"Please," Sora whispered, begged even, "please, please, please, be alive. I love you."

To say I was in shock is an understatement. Who was he talking to?

I looked to see her face.

It was me.

This doesn't make any sense! If that was my body and Riku ran right through me, does that mean I'm...dead?

"Please," I heard him again, "please come back to me."

I looked at him, feeling a pain in my chest. He looked like he would take my place if he could. I wish I could make his pain go away. Tell him that I was fine. But was I really? I didn't know. I just wanted to see his blue, blue eyes and a smile on his face. I didn't want to see him like this. I refused to let this be the last time I see him. I'll get out of this; one way or the other.

I closed my eyes and took deep breaths. I felt something happen but I didn't look.

~~~~Why is this happening to me?~~~~
I feel different…heavy…maybe. I just registered a beeping sound coming from somewhere, somewhere close as I lifted my hand to block the light from my face but immediately put it back down. It hurt me so much. Ouch. My entire body was in pain but I lived.
The next thing I registered was snoring. No, not one person but multiple people snoring. It sounded like they were making an improvised song. I smiled.
I lied there with my eyes closed for a while. After a minute or so, I opened my eyes.
At first, my eyes had to adjust to the light. When they did, I noticed the room was all white. Naminé would've loved that. She always did love that kind of thing.
I looked around from my spot on the bed against the wall. The door was parallel to the bed and there was a desk next to my head. On either wall adjacent to the doorway, two chairs took the area over.
On the chairs to my right sat Riku and Xion. Riku sat up straight but I could see he was sleeping. I saw some of the dried tears still on his cheeks. Xion, who was leaning on his left shoulder, was also in Dreamland.
On the opposite wall, Hayner and Olette sat. They were leaning against each other. If I could have move, I would've taken a picture. They looked so peaceful. Then I tilted my head a bit lower and saw a fifth sleeping form by my right hand.
Sora.
I saw the peacefulness on his face. The only thing that was wrong with that picture was the dried up tears that adorned his beautiful face.
What the hell happened?
I lightly shook my head side to side. With a lot of effort, I took my right hand and placed it on his head. Hopefully that wouldn't disturb anything in my arm but I really wanted to play with his hair. While I was playing with one of his spikes, I saw his eyes slowly open. I made sure I was looking straight into his eyes as he woke up. As soon as they opened, I took in the details of his eyes; how blue they were and how bright. To think I almost lost the privilege to see this…
"Kairi," he whispered as he sat up before he carefully removed my hand from his hair.
"Hey," I answered weakly, "to you too, you lazy bum."
"Kairi," he whispered again. It looked like he was about to cry. I wanted to comfort him but…I…still…couldn't…move. Ouch. Trying would only prevail in the hurt department and I really don't want to hurt anymore. I watched as a single tear escaped his left eye. His smile was real though. Not painful or sad. I could tell.
"Kairi, do-" Sora started but was interrupted by two people running into the room.
Sora turned around (much to my displeasure) and greeted the new arrivals. He stood right in front of me so I couldn't see who came. From the corner of my eye, I noticed Riku stirring.
"Sora," I heard a familiar voice greet while trying to catch his breath.
"Roxas, Naminé," he greeted.
"Is Kairi-?" Roxas asked, not finishing his question. I heard a choke followed by a sob as whoever that was tried to steady his/her breathing. More than likely, that would be Naminé. Roxas was probably comforting her now.
Sora glanced back at me, careful to not reveal that I was awake yet. I smiled lightly.
"She's fine," he replied. "You want to talk to her?" As he finished his question, he moved out of the way to reveal that I was awake.
"I knew it," Riku said, a bit tiredly. "I knew you weren't going to wake the rest of us up when she did."
Everyone awake shared a small laugh (including myself) before they all redirected their attention to me.
"So," Roxas said, careful to keep his voice low, "how long has Sora been talking to you."
"You know, a little. I'm not complaining." As I answered, I felt weak and tired. Maybe that was why everyone was talking in a low voice…
"Kairi," Riku asked as he looked right at me (careful so he didn't wake Xion up as well), "do you remember what happened?"
I thought about it very hard. All I remembered was walking home, a pause…then forgetting everything before remembering it again. I thought that during the pause, I was hit by a car but I didn't remember fully and I didn't want to assume things so I answered, "N-no. Not really. Sorry."
"Don't be," Riku answered as he leaned back.
Sora took his seat next to me again as he held my hand. Naminé and Roxas also took seats by my bed.
"You're lucky Kairi," Sora said with a smile.
"We all are," Roxas answered before he told me, "I wouldn't have anyone to bother if you weren't here."
I managed a smile.
"…AHH!" Hayner exclaimed as he jerked up into a sitting position.
Olette, who was resting her head on his shoulder, shouted in surprise when he moved.
Hayner looked at Olette and apologized before they noticed the attention they had received.
"…Hey there guys," Olette said as she and Hayner gave a weak wave.
"I'm injured and you too are still flirting?" I managed to tease weakly. "Well I never..."
"Kairi?" Hayner asked as he and Olette practically pushed everyone out of the way to get closer to me. "You're awake?"
"…" I had no idea what to say. Didn't I just tell them something? Like, opened my mouth to speak to them directly?
"No," I answered sarcastically, rolling my eyes, "you're dreaming. I'm still unconscious."
"Ha Ha, very funny. But I know I'm not dreaming," Hayner answered, feeling victorious.
"You're right," Riku countered. "If you were dreaming, I don't think you'd dream about us…Olette, maybe."
The comment caused the two to blush and Riku to receive high fives from the guys. I wouldn't even think about leaving this all behind.
To avoid looking Hayner in the eye, Olette got up and said, "I'm going to find the doctor and tell him that Kairi's awake." No one questioned her as she walked away.
"Not cool guys," Hayner said resulting with another round of laughter on his behalf.
"Kairi," Xion spoke up for the first time since I woke up, "Are you in pain?"
I took a moment to analyze my body. I am in pain (much pain) but I chose to ignore it. "Kind of," I answered (half) truthfully, "But I'll be fine."
After I answered, the room was engulfed by silence. It's peaceful. Maybe I'll just take a nap and-
"I'm back," Olette said as she reentered with a doctor right behind her.
"Hello everyone," the doctor greeted as they all moved out of he way.
They all answered with a "hi" or "hello" or grunt of the sort.
"Kairi," the doctor said going straight to the point, "Try not to move much. You've been severely injured; broken bone, internally bleeding, and the likes." He stops as I wonder what he's going to say next. "I'll tell your parents everything when they get here. I'm sure you're friends will be more than happy to keep you company?"
Everyone quickly replied to his question some sort of "yes" or a nod.
Well if everyone is so happy to help, I think I might just take a nap…
"Don't let her fall asleep!" the doctor exclaimed. Too late, buddy. I don't think anything's going to wake me up now.
Just then, I felt something on my lips. It was warm and gentle but oh so familiar.
…SORA!
I shot my eyes open.
"Thank goodness," I heard Xion say as a bunch of sighs of relief escaped everyone's lips.
Sora's was still kissing me (not that I was complaining) before he moved away and placed his forehead on mine.
"Don't scare me like that," he whispered. After a moment, he removed his head from mine.
"Try not to sleep," the doctor told me, "Not until I'm sure that we won't lose you."
I nodded before he turned his attention to everyone else. "That mean you all have to keep her awake." He smiled before adding, "Step one would be for everyone to stay awake." And with that, he left.
The room fell into silence as the fact that they almost lost me sunk in.
"Naminé, Roxas," Olette asked kindly after a while, "I thought you guys were at the mall across town. How'd you get here so fast?"
"Axel drove us with Demyx," Naminé answered.
"Yeah," Roxas agreed before he added, "But we got stuck in traffic so Naminé and I ran here."
"What were those two doing?" Hayner asked, knowing that that duo almost always mean trouble.
"Don't worry," Naminé assured.
"Axel wanted to get something for Larxene," Roxas added, "He wanted another opinion."
There was another round of silence. Usually it was never silent with these guys. Maybe the whole situation is still getting to them.
"Hey guys," Xion said out of nowhere, "What happened to that end of the year thing you were going to do?"
I was thinking about what she was talking about. Then I remembered.
"Oh!" Sora said as he realized what she was referring to, "Yeah, remember guys? The
Sexy Back thing we were going to do?"
Everyone laughed at that.
"So why's everyone laughing?" Axel asked as he and Demyx walked in.
"Yeah," Demyx added, "Kairi being at the hospital shouldn't be funny." He smiled knowing that we weren't laughing because of that.
"Axel, did you buy it?" Naminé asked in anticipation.
He looked over at the excited blond. Alex reached into his bag and pulled out a necklace. It was simple really. It was just a lightning bolt but I could almost make out Larxene's name on it.
"That's cute," I commented lightly before I added jokingly, "Who are you and what have you done to Axel?"
Axel placed his hand over his heart. "Kairi, I'm hurt!" he exclaimed before he walked up to me. "I'm still Axel," he continued as he lightly pushed my forehead with two of his fingers. "Got it memorized?"
I smiled before I realized something.
I still have no idea of how I got here.
"Guys," I said when I was sure I wanted to hear the story. Everyone looked at me before I continued, "Can someone tell me how exactly I got here?"
