A/N: Ohhhh I'm so sorry!!! At first I couldn't come back, then I got family issues, then school, and by a few months ago, I couldn't do it anymore. This story looked like such a huge deal to finish. Then, after so many drafts, I kept looking back at the first eight chapters and cringing. HARD. So, I decided if the end was gonna be done right, so should the whole thing. So now, I'm redoing the first few chapters before I add anything else. So if anyone still wants to read this, thanks and feedback is greatly encouraged! Nothin is mine but the girls and the plot.
Lorde - Yellow Flicker Beat
Sitting near the window, I watched Victor and some guy named Fury discuss something. Hmm, where have I heard that name before? Looked like it was important, what with the way Fury kept gesturing angrily and Victor continually shaking his head no. Then again, I shouldn't have expected anything more from him. Victor, I mean. It's supposed to be "dad", but he isn't very much of one. After Mom died, Victor hasn't exactly been any nicer to me. He noticed me staring, and motioned me down. Well, tilted his head, but I know what he meant. Sighing, I got up and made the long trek downstairs. For a man with only two daughters, and only one he likes, I can't understand why we even own a mansion, much less one on the outskirts of New York. Not that it matters really. No matter how many times he tells Taylor she's his "princess" and that she should get anything she wanted, Taylor denies him. She hates him almost as much as I do. Speaking of the devil, I passed by her room on my way downstairs. Everyone says she's nearly a spitting image of me. I can't see it though, but maybe that's when you look past her hair that's three shades darker than my near platinum blonde, her emerald eyes and army of freckles that cross her nose. That, and the kid never takes that nose out of a book. She saw me standing by the door frame, and looked questioningly at me. I motioned my head downstairs for her to tag along, and she obliged. At least someone supports me. When we got outside, remnants of the argument still lingered.
Walking up to them, I could immediately tell something wasn't right. Victor was looking me directly in my eyes (which is completely unlike him), and Fury stood with his arms behind his back. I narrowed my eyes at them suspiciously.
"Is there something you need from me"?
It was Victor who answered first.
"Well, ever since your powers have gotten stronger, I've been worrying".
I visibly stiffened. What the hell? Why was he worried all of a sudden? Taking a quick glance to my right, I could see Taylor was just as shocked. I knew, contrary to popular belief, that he actually doesn't want me or Taylor anywhere near the villain business. Taylor, because she's his innocent little snowflake. Me, because I could give him a run for his money. Oh yeah, I forgot to mention. The villain business? It's booming thanks to my so called father, aka Doctor Doom. Yep, THAT Doctor Doom. The one that should have no business talking to someone with a S.H.I.E.L.D. emblem on their chest. That's when it hit me. That's why his name sounded so familiar. Fury is the leader of S.H.I.E.L.D. So wait, why the hell were Doctor Doom and Director Fury having a conversation that didn't end in explosions? I could've asked outright, but the asshole in me took over.
"Wait, why are you two casually talking like old friends? I know you've got history, but weren't you just saying yesterday you were planning on doing something big"?
I obviously hit a nerve, because Victor scowled at me while Fury whipped his head towards him. I just smirked. My favorite past time has to be getting on Victor's last nerve. Before I could screw around any more, Fury finally spoke up.
"Your father called me here because he wants to enroll you into my hero program".
His program? I couldn't hardly believe what I had heard. I must have been confused and apprehended, because the devil himself stepped in to defend his choice.
"Look child, I know you do not expect sonething of this nature from me, but in this instance I think it will be good for you to leave here". Ah, so that was it. He just wanted me out of the house. Eh, I could deal with that. Taylor elbowed me hard in my side, and I tuned back in to see all three of them looking at me. I sheepishly laughed, and asked for someone to repeat whatever was said. Victor scoffed and spoke slowly. "Your sister is joining you".
At the mention of Taylor, who was still standing there looking between the three of us, I cut him off.
"Wait, what do you mean she's joining too?"
"Unfortunately, it is not just a single volunteer deal".
"Then don't let him take her!"
"Do you think I want my child around you and your heathenish ways? But the director here wishes for you both to accompany him".
I couldn't believe it. Well, shipping me off I can, but willingly giving Taylor up? That's insane to me. He sold her out without even talking about it first. My disbelief left me in silence long enough for him to drop the last bomb.
"... The Helicarrier leaves now, and so do you".
That was the final straw. I immediately flipped out, telling them both exactly what I thought. In very back alley terms. I turned and angrily flew off into the clouds. Landing on a rooftop, I sat and sulked about how stupid they were being. Time flew by, and before I knew it, the sun was setting. Turning to leave, I noticed Taylor, who had obviously been there a while, behind me.
"Why are you here"? I asked her, wanting to be left alone for a while more. Maybe until the end of time.
"To convince you to give the program a chance"
Of course. My overly optimistic sister was here to guilt trip me into this stupid program.
"No".
"Why are you being so negative? You haven't even gotten there yet, and you already hate it"
"Because! I'm not some glorified babysitter! I don't want to spend god knows how long looking after you and making sure you don't get hurt".
"Why are you acting like this? It isn't the worst thing in the world. And what's the big deal anyway? It's only training."
That caught me off guard. What was the big deal? All I had to do was practice, maybe save a few people, and be done with it. Once I got the title and passing letter, I'd never have to leave home again. Mulling over it, I finally came to the decision that I'd try it out. Taylor was ecstatic with the news, but before leaving told me something that left me wondering how I get myself into these situations.
"By the way, we'll be working with five other people. And because of your... "experience" with villains, Fury will make you co captain."
