As he nears the hammock, he realizes their is a note attached to it. He lifts it with his talon and reads, "Dear Orf, I do not have what it takes to raise this owlet in such harsh lands, but hope that you can. But their is a reason I brought this egg to you specifically. The egg is to hatch on the night of the lunar eclipse. In the hopes that you could train it, male or female, perhaps to be a blacksmith, I left it with you. I must attend to other business in far off lands. I hope someday I may see the owlet, but for now I must leave."
He crumpled the note and threw it into the sea. The nerve, he thought, How does this owl expect me, a smith, to raise an owlet. He peered at the egg which, although was dark as if covered in ash, seem to be that of a short eared owl.
