Her small feet made no sound as she paced back and forth across the soft white carpet in their room. One arm was held wrapped around her, as if trying to keep her body from falling apart, and her other was holding the top of her forehead. Shining white moonlight shone through the window, making her pale skin dance with diamonds. Jasper sat across the room on the bed, his eyes full of anxiety. Alice was having one of her headaches, and they had no idea why. She just kept complaining of the unbearable pain in her head, and Jasper felt completely helpless.

He hated not having the ability to help her. He could only watch her face turn more stressful as the days passed slowly. Time was torturing her, its small, dwindling seconds counting slowly the times the pain got worse. And she thought it was reaching its breaking point.

As her feet gently padded their way back towards Jasper, he could feel a sudden rush of pain coming from her, its conflicting ways seeming to engulf him. Jasper saw her face, and wondered how a vampire could look so worn out and tired. Her eyes were lifeless, hr face seemed sunken. She rarely ever smiled at him now, and it was tearing him apart. She seemed to float to Jasper, her hand falling from her head as she came. Her one small arm stayed curled around her tiny waist, and Jasper opened his arms to her.

An irresistible invitation. She simply collapsed into him, his strong arms holding her close to him. Alice rested her head upon his shoulder, closing her weary eyes. She wished desperately to sleep, to drown out all of the pain and undying torture this headache was causing her. But this…this love, protection she seemed to feel from Jasper, was slowly building up inside her.

It was hard to describe how he made her feel. It was always so right, every time, in the right places. And right now, when she felt like her world was crumbling in on her, he knew exactly what to do. The way his arms felt wrapped securely around her body, the way his lips seemed to drown out all her fears…it was the perfect solution.

As she lay there in his arms, Jasper traced the outline of her lips. She seemed so helpless there, so vulnerable to the outside world. He always needed to protect her…and he didn't mind it at all. He knew for a gratifying fact that he would always be there for her, no matter what happened in the unknown future.

Alice moved slowly in his arms, sitting up to look at him. She stared into his worried eyes, and she ran a pale fingertip across the invisible worry she saw etched so clearly in his perfect face. He suddenly relaxed, his arms loosening around her, but still holding her close to him.

"Thank you, Jazz." She stated simply, curling back into his chest an snuggling close to him. Jasper sighed contently, kissing her on the forehead softly. "Anytime, Alice…" he whispered as Alice kissed him on the lips.
