"Rufus, stop it," Lily says, her cheeks slightly red, as his hands slide slowly down her back. "We're at your daughter's cotillion." Her arms are wrapped loosely around his neck.
"So? We're just dancing," he says pressing a light kiss to her lips. She smiles against his lips before pulling away.
"Kids said no public displays of affection here tonight," she says.
"Yeah, well, we are the parents, we make the rules, don't we?" He says, grinning.
"We promised," she rolls her eyes, pretending to be annoyed. "And we wouldn't be setting a good example, the whole point of cotillion is to teach good social graces."
"Would you mind showing me your social graces somewhere private, Mrs. Humphrey?" He says with a smirk.
"Yes, of course I would mind. I don't plan on sneaking around just to make out with you," she says lifting up her eyebrow.
"Who said anything about making out?" His lips widen into a smile, while he's fighting back the laugh. She lets out a little laugh, avoiding the eye contact. The song is almost over, and she pulls him closer, tightening her arms around his neck. He pecks her on the neck quickly, before she could react.
"Don't worry, no one saw that," he says giggling.
"I'm going to kill you!"
"Oh Lil', I love you too..."
....
Later that evening they are sitting at the lounge outside of the ballroom.
"I never did let you go..." she says almost whispering.
"What are you talking about?"
"Two years ago, at Serena's cotillion... You called me saying you should have never let me let you go." Her lips form a curved line, while she stares in his eyes affectionately.
"Lil'", before he could finish, she presses a soft kiss on his lips. She pulls away for a second, just long enough to whisper "I love you" before pulling him back to herself.
"I love you too..." There's a moment of silence before he speaks up again." But I thought we're not allowed to make out."
She stands up and grabs his hand leading him outside, hauling a cab.
"We're allowed to do anything we want to. Dan will be spending the night at the penthouse, right?" "Yeah... That means we'll be spending the night at the loft?"
"Mhm..." She wraps her self around him, kissing him fiercely in the back of a cab.
....
"This seems kinda familiar, doesn't it," he asks while he's unlocking the door.
"Only, this time I get to stay for breakfast," she says with a chuckle.
"Oh, that's the only difference... I see." He pretends to be mad for a couple of seconds before picking her up and carrying her into the loft.
"Of course not my love," she kisses him softly, "I'm Mrs. Humphrey now." He carries her to the bedroom kissing her playfully on her neck, while she unbuttons his shirt. His touch and kisses, his weight on top of her, her moans… It was familiar, but there was strange comfort in this familiarity.
