He watches intently as she runs her eyes over the instructions one last time. Her eyebrows furrow in confusion in the familiar way and he can't help but laugh when she lets out a frustrated groan and slams the paper down on the coffee table beside her.

"This shouldn't be that hard." Jeff stands up to tower over her. He's not annoyed anymore, she's being too adorable for him to be annoyed.

"I say we just sleep on the floor for the rest of our lives." She rests her hands on her hips. A small yawn escapes her lips as the clock strikes midnight.

They've been at this for hours and it's just not working. The only furniture they've been able to assemble is that coffee table. The empty space around them makes the cramped apartment look much larger and for a moment he contemplates keeping things this way.

"Annie Edison never gives up." He shakes his head. "How about we have some coffee and pay the assholes at IKEA to put the stuff together tomorrow?"

"Jeefffff," she stretches out his name like she's been doing for years. "That's a few hundred bucks down the drain and our honeymoon basically bankrupted us already."

"Wow, I love it when you talk financial to me." He chuckles and moves past her to the kitchen. He turns on the spotlight, illuminating the black counters.

His mind travels back to a few months ago when they first saw the place. They were fighting about the wedding plans. She wanted it to be in the summer and he preferred fall because things just seemed better then, but they forgot all about it as soon as they stepped into the apartment.

The windows seemed bigger then and the view seemed brighter and the shiny hardwood floors beckoned them. Both of them immediately knew that this was where they were supposed to spend the rest of their lives together.

It's midnight and they're in yet another argument but as Jeff bustles about making coffee he doesn't regret anything, and he knows he was right about this place.

"I'm sorry I've been so fussy about the money." She appears in front of him, taking a seat across from him on one of the stools that are (luckily) screwed into the floor. "It's just really frustrating that I haven't been able to find a job for a month. I hate being out of work."

"I know." He leans forward to face her, reaching out to cup her chin with his hand. "You'll find something soon, you know. There are tons of places dying to hire detective Edison."

Her doe eyes reappear on her face. After all this time he can still warm her heart with just a few simple words. She used to have to deny that he could make her feel this way but she's eternally grateful that that's over.

"I love you," she states, waiting for him to reciprocate. She loves when he says it back, she makes him say it at least 20 times a day.

"I love you, too." He smiles, before leaning forward to place a kiss on her cheek.

Just as he's on the verge of taking her right here on this counter, the coffee pot sounds. He sighs and keeps from cursing under his breath, since she never does like when he does that.
