Hi! I'm YesIWrite, and this is my fanfiction. It's pretty dark and really short, just something I thought up on the spot. This takes place about a year or two after City of Heavenly Fire, but I don't... think there are any spoilers.
NOTE: There is a passage taken directly from CoHF, and I noted it with italics.
You are my sunshine.
"Clary?" Isabelle said, edging the door open with her hip, eyes wide with concern. "You need to come out now. Everybody's waiting for you downstairs."
Downstairs. Where they would go to the crossroads to bury Jace.
Isabelle left quietly.
At the crossroads, because they said it was a suicide. That the great Jace Herondale would never let himself get taken down by a mere Ravener demon.
They were right.
My only sunshine.
It was her fault.
For the first time, she fingered the knife she had brought up. It was cold. She was cold.
You make me happy"
Jace," she whispered, and everything shattered. Her vision, her shaking hands, her heart. Her heart, which had only ever been his anyway.
When skies are gray
She thought back to Edom, when Isabelle had been dying.
"Something has to help!" Simon shouted suddenly, his voice echoing off the walls. "You're Shadowhunters; you fight demons all the time. You have to be able to do something-"
"And we die all the time!" Jace shouted back at him, and then suddenly crumpled over Isabelle's body, doubling up as if he'd been punched.
You'll never know how much I love you.
"We die all the time," she whispered, gently tracing the design on the hilt of the knife. Herons, for a Herondale. For Jace. She'd given it to him last year, right after her mom's wedding. Tears fell silently, but she barely noticed. "That's what Shadowhunters do."
With shaking hands, she drew the dagger up to her chest, her heart. She could almost see five minutes into the future, when her heart wouldn't beat and the iciness that was threatening to take over would succeed. She'd be nothing, but she was nothing right now, not without him. She knew he'd be the same. They were two halves of one being. If you took out one, the other would fall.
"Jace."
Please don't take my sunshine
She drove the blade home.
