The Life of a Support

I ran. There were shouts and sounds of swords and fists hitting armor rebounding around the forest. I ran faster. My partner snorted as he ran beside me. His chains rattled as he moved his arms. I looked at his eyes and they were filled with determination. "It'll be fine. They can handle themselves." I said in an attempt to calm him down. "No. They won't handle themselves too well when HE comes in." I looked at my feet. He was right. They could handle themselves, but when the fight was over, HE would come in and finish them…

We finally saw the rest of our team. Our allies were in a heavy battle against the enemy. We had the advantage. We had killed their heavy attacker and were nearly done with taking down their tank. It seemed like we wouldn't have to worry. It always seemed that way…

We quickly joined the fray, my partner roared as he ran in, increasing our morale and helped us into attacking with all of our might and beating down the other team. I was in the middle of taking down one of the remaining enemies who was running when I heard a rustle in the brush I had just passed. HE had just come into play… I stopped my chase and immediately tried to get away. I was too slow… He hurled his flask of poison and hit dead-on. I felt myself slow down and the poison find its way into my blood. I saw him smile and I felt a sharp pain. I tried to keep running, but I knew that he would kill me even if the poison didn't. When the poison had finally worn off I felt my life-force slowly try to stabilize. It was pointless. I already knew that I could only hold on for so long. He only needed to hit me with his arrows and I would be finished. I kept running, only if to cling on to the hope that he would miss. But I could already feel his arrows finding their target into my back, and the poison they were dripping with, finally killing me. I was met with another feeling instead…

I felt someone's arms pushing me out of the way and heard the roar that had led us to victory many times before. As I got up from the ground, I saw a hulking figure standing in between me and HIM. "Run! I can stall him for a few seconds!" My partner yelled. I stood there and was about to object when I heard two arrows find their mark. He didn't flinch and turned to face me. "Now! Run! I'm expendable and you know it! Run!" Before I knew it, I was already running at full sprint. I took one look behind me and saw him roaring before charging, with his arms ready to strike. I turned back around and quickly ran into a nearby brush. I dropped to the floor as I opened a book and waited for it to teleport me back to base. Eight seconds later, I heard the howl of my partner and the announcer say "An ally has been slain!" I gasped. I chocked back my sobs as I felt hot tears slowly make their way down my face. The book grew brighter and as the teleport was about to finish, I said "The life of a support…is a sad one." The bush was engulfed in light and I was gone. All that was left was one thing. A paper muddied and crumpled, and with words quickly written upon it. The words said, "Alistar. Protector of all and my support, forever and always."
