I could still feel the wild beating of my heart. The Reaping had been hours ago, but the adrenaline still coursed through my veins. My poor Prim, she was so young. She didn't deserve to be brought up in such a cruel world. She was so innocent, and I couldn't let them ruin that.

I crawled off my bed, and I reached my arms up, stretching my sore muscles. I opened the door, and quietly crept to the back of the train. Being surrounded by all of these lavish things made me feel guilty, here I stood surrounded by luxury while my people starved.

I opened up the back door of the train, and took a deep breath. Trees surrounded us from every directions, I assumed we were passing through District 7. The air out here felt lighter, and cleaner. I could breathe it all in without fear, of inhaling coal dust. I looked up above me, and a gasp escaped my mouth. The sky was beautiful. It looked as if jewels had been strewn across velvet. Each star twinkled so brightly that it would have made the sun green with envy. I had never really been able to observe the sky so clearly, a thick layer of coal dust covered the sky.

When I was younger my dad used to tell me about these things called constellations. They were groups of stars that made shapes. Every once in a while when we could actually make out the stars he'd point them out to me. His favorite one for some reason was Orion. He told me no matter what I'd always be able to see it, it contained the brightest stars in the sky. He told me Orion was also a Hunter, he said it always reminded him, that he could survive hardships, just as Orion had.

Growing up the whole concept of stars amazed me. They were so beautiful. Each star was its own mix of substances that to us may seem ugly. However when they all came together under the right circumstances, they formed something so pure and beautiful. They could not be tainted by mankind, they shone, and sparkled all by their selves. And when they came together they formed shapes in the sky that took my breath away. The stars always seemed to cheer me up, they reminded me of my sweet little Prim. Although by some sheer stoke of bad luck, it was her fault why I was on this train, I couldn't find it in myself to be angry with her. I would do anything to protect her no matter the cost.

I closed my eyes and took a deep breath, relishing in the sweet silence of the night. As I listened I could hear the steady tapping of footsteps. I whirled around coming face to face with my District partner. His blue eyes pierced my body, making me shiver.

I remember how close the two of us used to be. We had been raised together, our parents were best friends. We were always together, wherever one of us went the other followed. We were the best of friends. However, once we got high school things changed. He didn't want to hang out with me anymore, and before I knew it he was gone. He said I wasn't good enough for him, that he couldn't be friends with the scum of the district. That was years ago, and now we were both going into the arena, there were so many things left to say, but I just couldn't do it. There wasn't time left to fix what had happened between us, it would only make it harder to kill him.

I waited for him to say something but he just continued to stare out into the open. I wanted to say something to him, but for some odd reason I couldn't seem to bring myself to say it. I had waited for months to have the opportunity to confront him, and now was my chance. With one last shake of my head, I brushed passed him, heading back to my room.

I buried myself deep under the blankets, hoping to forget the string of old memories that had now invaded my mind.

I woke up to the sun shining brightly on my face. I let out a groan and rolled over. I must have forgotten to close the curtains before I fell asleep last night. The clock next to me read 9:30, I let out a sigh before slowly stretching up and getting out of bed. I walked to the bathroom, and almost let out a shriek. To say I looked horrible was an understatement. My hair was a rat's nest, my clothes were wrinkled, and dried spit covered my face. I walked into the shower, hoping to clean up my appearance.

Three burns, and six different types of bubbles later I was finally done with my shower. I combed my hair, put it in a braid and got dressed. I wasn't entirely sure what I was supposed to wear, so I grabbed some stretchy pants, and a pretty blue sweater. I shuffled towards the dining room, hoping to find something to eat. As I entered the dining car I was greeted by three faces.

"Thank you for gracing us with your presence Sweetheart" Haymitch said dryly.

I let out a scoff and sat down ready to start my meal. I dug in, the delicious aromas made my stomach growl in anticipation. I had never tasted food so good. I continued to scarf down food until I realized that the car had grown awkwardly silent. I looked up only to see all eyes were on me.

"What?" I asked with my mouth full of food, causing me to choke. I grabbed the water that sat on the able, trying to unclog my throat. After a series of coughs, I had successfully saved myself from death. The people seated around me continued stare, making me feel more uncomfortable than I already did.

"I'd just like to let you know that we'll be arriving in the Capitol in a half an hour. We have designated outfits for you located in your closets, if you two could go get changed that would be lovely" Effie chirped.

I pushed back my chair and walked out of the car, silently thanking my luck. I opened my closet and pulled out a black garment bag. As I unzipped it, I was greeted by a light blue blouse, and black skirt and some tights. Sighing I pulled on the outfit before twisting my hair into a braided bun. As I reentered the dining car, a flash of silver caught my eye. I looked out the window more closely, trying to figure out exactly what I had seen. The silver was quickly replaced with glistening blue water. We had entered the Capitol. The Capitol shined under the Sun's golden rays. It looked luxurious, something much different than what I was used too. The sky was clear, and I could make out a few clouds.

As the train began to slow down, thousands of faces seem to flash through the window. Each face appeared to be a different color, the people looked like one gigantic sea of color. I could hear Haymitch's shouts from the front of the train telling me we had arrived.

With a deep breath I approached the door, and stepped outside into the scorching heat. People screamed and waved at us. My face scrunched up in disgust. These people treated us like animals. To them this was the must see show of the year, while we were the ones being sent for slaughter. The found some sadistic form of happiness in the shedding of our blood, it made me sick to my stomach. People reached out to grab our clothes and hair. I could feel the getting closer and closer, and I could feel my body warm in discomfort. The longer we spent outside the more uncomfortable I became. Reaching the Training Center was like a breath of fresh air.

I hurried inside desperately wanting to escape the crowd. I turned to see if Effie and Haymitch were behind me, luckily they hadn't been swallowed by the growing crowd and they were. I started walking towards the elevator, when I crashed into something hard. Before I knew it I felt my body hurtling towards the floor, before I made contact with it something caught me.

The person who caught me spun me around so I was facing him. His dark green eyes reminded me of beautiful emeralds my father had shown me pictures of. His eyes were mesmerizing, the way the sparkled reminded me of stars. His face was well defined, his blonde hair was styled up into some new hairstyle I had never seen before. I it definitely didn't take a genius to realize that this man was attractive. He hadn't changed very much since the last time I saw him six months ago.

"Are you going to keep staring or can I let you go" He chuckled.

My cheeks flushed with embarrassment, I tried stuttering out a reply but the words just didn't come out. I realized his arms were still wrapped tightly around me, and it only made me blush deeper. Someone behind us cleared they're throat, and we jumped apart.

"Well look what we have here" Haymitch said with a smirk.

I held out my hand, trying to break the silence I held out my hand for him, "I'm Katniss Everdeen."

He pulled me in close, leaning down to whisper in my ear," Aww Kitten you don't have to pretend that you don't know me. Let's not forget you're mine."

With that he stepped back with a smug smile on his face before turning on his heel and walking away, leaving everyone behind me confused. I started at his retreating figure, still thinking about the moment we had shared.

"Come on Lover girl, let's go, you'll see Prince charming soon enough." He said while pushing me towards the elevators.

A few hours after we arrived, I was ready for the opening ceremonies. The body suit Cinna had put me in, fit me like a second skin. Although I was a little uncomfortable, I knew I had to step out of my comfort zone if I wanted to win this thing. As I was walking towards the District 12 chariot, I felt a pair of arms snake around my waist," Got you" the body said. I spun around coming face to face with Gloss. I couldn't help but smile. I had missed him.
