Authors Note:
Hello everybody, I know that I have been gone for a really long time but I am slowly starting to come back. I just wanted to start off with rewritting this one-shot real quick. I added more to the story giving more detail of what happened but I didn't add too much.
Enjoy the story.
I do not own Naruto.
Six years have passed since Sasuke left. Six years ago, one of my oldest and longest friends failed to bring him back to me after I begged him to do everything he can in order to bring Sasuke home. After Naruto failed, he and I fell into a depression. What was once a great team, broke apart as we each went our separate ways in order to become stronger. Sasuke wanted the power to kill his brother. Naruto wanted the power to bring Sasuke back and to be the village hokage. I wanted the power to bring Sasuke back and to also show my teammates that they didn't need to protect me all the time, I wanted to be useful.
However, a lot has changed in those six years. Sasuke made it clear multiple times that he did not want to return home. Everytime Naruto and I went out there to bring him back, we would only come home to heartbreak and defeat. So now, it is only Naruto searching for Sasuke to bring him home, but he is also searching for me as well.
I am Haruno Sakura. A former medic ninja of the Village Hidden in the Leaves. I am now a S Ranked missing nin who belongs to the most wanted group in the country. I left the village when Naruto was away from yet another attempt to bring Sasuke back, I left in order to find myself some answers. The only answer I was given was shown by a man wearing a black cloak with red clouds.
I've been with the Akatsuki for two years now. I am more then thankful for the Leader to give me a solo mission as I needed to get away from all those crazy men. I was in no rush to get back. I know that when I do, my insane bomb crazed teammate is going to bombard me with endless questions, along with everyone else.
There is no rush for me to make it back to base. Leader knows I will be there as soon as I am ready but I will still make it back within a decent time frame. The weather in this country is perfect around this time of year so resting under a tree in the middle of the forest seemed like the best thing to do at the time.
However, my time alone didn't last long as I felt a single chakra signature. I knew the chakra from somewhere, I felt this person's chakra before, but putting a face and a name together was almost impossible. My questions were soon answered as the boy from my childhood walked into the clearing. "Well this is interesting." I thought to myself as I placed my hand over my kunai.
"Is there something you need?" I asked not bothering to hide the irritation in my voice. He has been standing here for almost five minutes and hasn't even said a word. He began walking towards me without saying a word, which only caused me to stand pulling out my kunai.
He held up his hands in defense "Calm down. I don't want to fight. I have no need to." He said as he sat himself next to me leaning against the tree "Would you care to sit with me?"
I raised a brow as I slowly sat down again, I still kept my kunai drawn and ready in my hand. "Why are you here?" I asked after a while trying to break the silence.
"I needed a break." He whispered staring at the clear sky. "I can ask the same thing about you."
"I am on my way back from a mission." I couldn't help but stare at him and compare him to the memories "It has been a while Sasuke."
"What do you mean?" He questioned finally taking his eyes off of the sky to look at me. His eyes were harder yet they weren't as cold as they once were.
"Last time you and I made contact we were trying to kill each other. Last time we were on friendly terms, it was when we were children." He gave a nod "What do you want? I know you wouldn't come to me unless you are in need of something."
"Why did you leave the leaf and join Akatsuki? I mean, what about Naruto? When did you give up on your hope in finding me?" He looked away "What changed?"
I gave a sigh "Naruto was heartbroken when I told him I no longer wanted to search for you. After you left, Naruto went away for three years. So I was alone and on my own. I trained everyday but I still had a lot of questions that I needed answers to. Then Naruto came back and we searched for you for a year. When I was on a solo mission, I met someone and he helped me. He gave me all the answers I needed and more. So I went back to the village and told Naruto I no longer wanted to help him bring you back. He was furious but he understood. After he went out on another mission to find you and once he was gone, I left." I gave a small smile at the story "I met up with the man and I followed him into the Akatsuki."
"Do you love him?" Sasuke questioned, trying to hide the pain in his voice
"I do not know yet, but he is becoming a very special person to me."
"Sakura," I made eye contact "come with me."
I was silent for a few moments "What are you talking about?" I didn't think I heard him right.
"Come with me. Leave Akatsuki, join my team. Be by my side.'
I shook my head "That is something that I cannot do."
"Why not?"
"Years ago I would have given anything to have you ask me that. But I am not the weak, simple-minded, fan girl Sasuke." I slowly stood from my spot and began walking away.
"What happened Sakura?" He grabbed my arm, stopping me from leaving.
"I grew up Sasuke. I no longer wanted to fight for someone who didn't want to be fought for. I gave up on the idea that you would ever come home. I found someone else to give me what I needed."
I turned around to find him right in front of me "So what does this mean?"
I wrapped my arms around him giving him a tight hug "I would have given anything to be your lover. But that is not something we can do. You will always have a place in my heart. But we can no longer be friends Sasuke."
"Enemies?' he was finally catching on.
"We cannot be lovers and we cannot be friends. Our paths do not cross in any good ways. The path you and I are on are completely different." I gave him a kiss on the cheek as I unwrapped my arms from around his neck.
"I'm sorry, Sakura." He lowered his head
"Thank you." I placed my hand on his shoulder for a moment in comfort "Good bye." I turned around and walked out of the clearing. Knowing that I needed to get back to the base soon or my partner will begin to worry.
"He is no longer the boy that I use to know. Sasuke, you have grown into a fine man. Too bad we are no longer on the same path."
I hoped you enjoyed the story! Please leave a review to let me know what you think of it.
