A/N: This is really different from the things I have written before, but I'm actually quite proud of it. I always liked idea that Rin and Len were actually opposite sides of a mirror, which is why I wrote it. I based this story on a Greek myth.
The young princess walked through the lush forest, amazed, once again, by its beauty. The birds sang overhead, and the rustling of small animals could be heard in the distance. It was a peaceful place, and one of the princess's favorite places to be.
When life in the castle became unbearable, she came here. Although temporary, it was an escape from the boring life that she had come to hate. She desperately wished that she could be free of it all... But she knew it would never happen.
Somewhat exhausted from the long walk, the princess looked for a place to sit down. She decided on a comfortable looking spot next to a deep pond. After she sat down, she looked down at her reflection... And what she saw shocked her.
"Oh!" she gasped, putting her hand in front of her mouth. The person in the reflection was not her at all, but rather, a young boy around her same age. He was handsome and well-dressed, with golden hair and blue eyes.
The boy gasped along with her, and they stared at each other in awe. After a moment, the princess smiled sheepishly.
"I'm sorry," she said. The boy's mouth moved as well, but she couldn't hear his voice. "That was rude of me. My name is Rin." She smiled warmly, and the boy smiled back.
It was love at first sight.
Every day after that, Rin came to visit the boy in the water, who she came to call Len. She confided all her secrets to him, telling him all about her life in the castle, and how much she hated a being princess. In time, she began to learn his secrets as well. She loved Len, and hoped that one day, she would be able to be with him, be able to touch his face without rippling the window between them. And she knew in her heart that he loved her too.
One day, Rin came to the water with tears streaming down her face. She looked down into the water at Len, and he looked just as sad as she did. She began to explain her situation to him - she was betrothed, about to be married to a man she didn't know. Len looked on at her sympathetically, understanding as always. Finally, determination gripped Rin.
"I'm going to run away!" she announced. "I don't want to be with him - I want to be with you, Len!"
Len nodded, looking eager. "I love you too, Rin," she heard him say. "Come to me..."
Rin was nodding too. "Here I come," she breathed, and then, she plunged into the water, facing the cold depths of the pond.
