prepositional love

who is
scorpius malfoy?
the boy whose name is whispered
and whose face is known
and whose word is revered?

who are you,
albus potter?
the boy whose name is too loud
and whose face is a secret
and whose word is lost in the noise of
| everyone else |?

you are two boys
hopelessly
knowingly
devastatingly
in love

you are made of adjectives
and drowned in adverbs
two nouns
afraid to verb
and your stolen kisses are prepositional phrases
that never get finished

prepositional phrase—noun: conveys a spatial, temporal, or directional meaning
direction?
what direction?
you're spiraling in a direction they've never seen
going somewhere you've never gone
not keeping track of the time

scorpius and albus
a conjunction
you two are filled with other words
little, insignificant other words
the only ones that matter are
albusandscorpius
or
scorpiusandalbus
or
slytherin

he's a slytherin, they whisper
which one? they ask
both, they reply
scandalous

inseparable—adjective: unable to be separated or treated separately
inseparable—noun: a person inseparable from another
synonyms: indivisible, inseverable
they're stuck
with each other
and with their adverbs
swirling around them

trying so desperately to form a coherent
sentence
but failing

because darling, when hislipsyourlips are together
you forget how to speak
maybe that's better

adjectives will just weigh you down
trying to get you to be something you're not
(kind, sweet, smart, good)

adverbs tell you how to live your life
your parents do that often enough
(lovingly, softly, thoughtfully)

you're not sure if you want to be a noun anymore
they're always in the middle of a sentence
(boy, son, brother, cousin, lover)

verbs are too picky
actions are too concrete
(love, touch, kiss, hug, leave)

you think that maybe
you'll keep the prepositional phrases
(they can show you where you're going)
(or when it's ending)
(or where you are)
(you're never quite sure)

in the end
you're one big tangle of words
scorpius helps you to accept your adjectives
even if slytherin and potter are two of them
and you stop the dangerous verbs
even if they feel good
and become a better noun

but you're still in love with prepositions
because they tell you that you're

(with him)
