Without You.
Without you, the ground thaws, the rain falls, the grass grows.
Without you, the seeds root, the flowers bloom, the children play.
The stars gleam, the poets dream, the eagles fly, without you.
The earth turns, the sun burns, but I die, without you.
The bell rang loudly signalling the end of class. Nick was quick to rise from his seat and hurriedly made his way out of the door.
"Hey Nick, fancy coming to the basketball court?"
"No thanks," he replied, "I've got stuff to do,"
Without question he left, books under his arm and headed towards his car. The rain was beginning to pour as he got inside and revved the engine.
Without you, the breeze warms, the girl smiles, the cloud moves.
Without you, the tides change, the boys run, the oceans crash.
The crowds roar, the days soar, the babies cry, without you.
The moon glows, the river flows, but I die, without you.
"Can I get a lift with you Nick?"
"Sorry – stuff to do," Nick replied nonchalantly
He pulled away without a word and drove his familiar route home. His finger tapped impatiently on the steering wheel at the red lights and as soon as they were green he sped off again. The rain crashed down on his windscreen stormily and the hailstones began in earnest.
Without you,
Without you, the hand gropes, the ear hears, the pulse beats.
Nick pulled up along side Joe's car and made his way inside, he did not hurry and he did not care that he was drenched in rain as soon as he stepped out of his car. Nothing like that mattered much to him anymore.
Without you, the eyes gaze, the legs walk, the lungs breathe.
His white shirt became see-through almost instantly. The glass door was banging against its frame in the wind as Nick made his way up onto the decking where his father sat in a rocking chair. He planted a kiss to his father's head and headed inside, he kissed his mother, and Joe was nowhere to be seen. Joe mattered, but not right now.
The mind churns,
He walked into the kitchen and put down his books and bag, he walked over to his brother who was doing the washing up. He wrapped his arms around Kevin's waist and nuzzled his nose gently into the crook of his neck.
The heart yearns,
Kevin stopped what he was doing and turned to his brother. He wrapped his arms around him gently. He moved his hands up his brother's body to his jaw line and tenderly kissed him, deepening into a passionate kiss. Like always, Nick's stomach turned to marshmallow.
The tears dry, without you.
Life goes on, but I'm gone.
Cause I die, without you.
