CHAPTER 1

Newport, Florida.

"Come on, Bonnie. These shopping bags aren't going to carry themselves." My aunt Vivian sanged as she tugged me off the bench I was resting on. I had the displeasure of being woken by her at eight o'clock in the morning on a Saturday to go shopping! It was bad enough I was going to be stuck here for the next three months, now I can't sleep in?

"I'm impressed," I reluctantly followed her into another store. "Only three days in and I'm already your packed mule."

Aunt Viv rolled her eyes, swatting her hand at me dismissively. "Oh please honey, you're lucky I even gave you three days. There was a sale when you came but I decided to let you rest from your flight." She fingered through some tops on a rack.

"Gee, thanks." I said sarcastically while looking around the mostly empty place. No one comes to the mall this early. "You know, what would my dad say about this forced child labor you put me through every summer?" I teased, shifting the heavy bags around.

"Rudy only gave me three conditions when you started spending the summer with me." She began, holding a closed fist up. "Feed you everyday," A finger went up. "Give you a curfew," another finger. "And don't let you hang around any hormonal teenaged boys." I roll my eyes at her word choice and cheeky grin. "But since you're older, I think we can bend the rules on the last two."

"Seriously Aunt Viv? There are not any cute boys in this town." I groan as she threw a sweater at me to hold.

"What? What about the Evans' boy? You hang out with him every summer. He asked about you last week, in fact."

"You mean, Malcom? The guy with braces who has been stalking me every summer since I was eleven?" I crinkle my nose. Malcolm was a comic geek that had been a pain in my ass every time I came to visit. I would do my best to avoid him, but eventually he'd just pop up at the house. And of course, Aunt Viv being Aunt Viv, would totally encourage this. I have to talk to her about this, because I'm not going to subject myself to another summer like that.

"Mama! Mama!" I turn to see my little twin cousins, Amara and Sophie bouncing towards us with arms full of dolls, long pigtails flapping behind them. These girls were too much. Aunt Viv literally told them before we left that they weren't getting any new toys and here they are with about ten dolls and puppy dog eyes.

Aunt Viv sighed at the sight, shaking her head. "What did I tell you little munchkins?"

"But Mama, they need a home!" Amara protested with a pout.

"They already have a home, right here in the mall. Now take them back before their mothers start to worry." She walked away to another rack. I was going to laugh at the simultaneous frown they pulled until they redirected their puppy eyes to me. Oh no, I don't think so. I shook my head.

"Don't even think about it. Your mom already has me carrying around all of her bags." I stopped, looking down at their fully capable little arms. "Speaking of which, you two are now on duty." I decide, giving them each three bags. "And I'll return these, then I'm taking a well deserved break."

"Bonnie!" They both whined at once.

"Sorry Shortstacks. Go follow your mom." They huffed adorably but went off in the direction Aunt Viv disappeared. I sigh in relief at finally having a moment alone. Don't get me wrong, I mean, I love my family but they've been hovering since I got here. I need space and some was the summer before my senior year! I should be spending it with friends being reckless and making bad decisions with boys. Plus, take down an occasional evil vampire every now and then. But no, I was spending it with my boring side of the family. The family I couldn't even do magic around because dad didn't want his family being "corrupted" as he so eloquently put it. Still, I don't think I can go another summer of complete boredom.

I'll call Caroline. Things in Mystic Falls had to be more interesting than Newport. Even if it is just her usual Tyler drama. At this rate, I'll take any form of entertainment I can get. I was walking over to the back hallway near the restrooms, dialing Care's number when I heard a woman…crying? I frowned, staring at the women's bathroom door. I should probably go console her. It's the right thing to do. I sigh walking to the door but as I went to turn the knob, a whimper made my blood freeze.

"Please d-don't kill me."

Oh my God! Really!? I began to panic. I wanted excitement but not this type! I have to do something. I turn the knob but it wouldn't budge. It was locked. I look around for what, I don't know. Then it hit me, making me almost smack myself on the forehead at being so inadequate in a crisis. You have magic! I scream at myself. With that reminder, I quickly spring into action, closing my eyes I concentration to turn the lock. When I heard the click, I immediately stumbled in with determination but I was in no way prepared for what I saw. Standing in the middle of the bathroom was a woman, maybe mid-thirties, shaking with a fear stricken expression and another woman behind her whose face was hidden by her dark curtain of curls as she was buried into her neck. It was then I zeroed in on the blood droplets falling in a random scatter around their shoes.

What! A vampire!? Here?

Why did this have to happen here and now? Especially with my aunt and sweet little cousins roaming around nearby. I straightened my stance and prepared my magic.

"Get away from her!" I scream, though it came out shakier than I liked. The vampire froze, still holding the shaking woman tightly. She slowly raised her head from her neck. I dropped my phone. Staring at me with red eyes, black spidery veins sprouted across her face and bloodied fangs was none other than Katherine Pierce.

"Well," she began. "This is a surprise."

I didn't know what to say. I couldn't focus, my mind was running rampant. A stalk contrast to Katherine's alarmingly calm demeanor especially given the fact that she had a terrified woman squirming in her grasp. I couldn't tell if it was the angle of her face in the oddly dimmed bathroom light, but she really did looked just as surprised to see me as I did her.

"I didn't know the Bennetts frolicked in Florida." She rasped, eying me intently.

"They don't." I say without was I engaging in small talk?

"Then what are you doing here?" She asked curiously, still watching me.

"What are you doing with that girl?" I countered, still feeling on edge. Just because Katherine is familiar, doesn't mean that she was safe. Plus, she's extremely unpredictable. She's liable to snap and kill the both of us.

"What do you think, genius?'

I bit my lip, watching her carefully. "Are you going to kill her?"

"Are you going to stop me?" She smirks playfully, lips still stained with blood.

"Yes." I say without hesitation and I mean it. Katherine couldn't go around killing people just because she felt like it. Not in my family's town. My dad's right. They don't need to be corrupted. This isn't Mystic Falls.

She raised an eyebrow in amusement, clutching the girl tighter. "Oh baby, I'd love to see you try."

I narrowed my eyes at her cocky grin, still smudged red. Why in all my bad luck did I have to stumble upon Katherine Pierce draining someone in the most boring town on planet. But honestly what can I do? I've never really been able to take her down without the help of Damon and Stefan. Even then it was near impossible. How was I going to take her on my own?

"I'm waiting, cupcake." She purred, all her focus on me now.

What can I do? What can I do!

If only I had some way to get her attention on something other that that girl.

Wait.

That was it! That's how we got her before. Distraction. The element of surprise. Do something she wouldn't expect. Lucy turning on her definitely caught her off guard that time. I could never take her because she was always expecting for me to attack her. Like, she's probably expecting now. So, how do I distract her? I could start being nice to her…No. She's too smart. She'll know what I'm doing. I need to be unpredictable like she is. Wait. How did Stefan do it? He always seemed to know exactly how to get her-

I gulp as I suddenly remember the tactics he used. Seduction. Making her think he wanted her. Could that really work? For me, at least? I didn't have time to make a well thought out decision when I saw her leaning back towards the bleeding wound.

"Wait!" I shouted with wide, frantic eyes. She paused, not continuing nor leaning back, just staring at me. Fuck, how do I do this? I didn't even know how to seduce a woman, much less Katherine! A woman with five hundred plus years of obvious experience. Experience probably at some point with other women. Experience I didn't really have. Experience I didn't think I would need. Shit. Breath, Bonnie. This isn't about you. This is about the innocent woman whoms life is literally in the palm of Katherine's hands. I'm the only one who can help her. I changed my cold, arm folded stance to a more open one, sliding my hand into my back pocket lazily. Katherine finally leaned back, with an intrigued look but didn't say anything. I prepare myself for the sexiest voice I could muster and spoke, "Why drink from her when you can from a willing Bennett witch?" I husked. Katherine's face was priceless. In the unpleasant amount of time that I've known her, I've never seen her look so dumbfounded. If I wasn't trying to put on an act on account of someone's life being at stake, I'd burst out in laughter and maybe even take a picture for everyone back home. Katherine's grip visibly loosened, but she didn't let go. Her calculating eyes were scanning all over my body, trying to figure me out. A nervous shiver went down my spine when her eyes settled back on mine. Her usual smirk was back in place.

"Is Bonnie Bennett offering herself up to little ole me?" She clearly didn't believe a word I had said.

"Yes." I say plainly, staring daringly into her eyes.

"What's the catch?"

"You know the catch," I tell her simply. "You have to let her go free."

She licked her lips, ridding them of the residue blood, eyes narrowing. "And why would I do that?"

"Because you'll want to taste my blood. I heard witch's taste unlike anything else. Especially my lineage. But judging by your face, you already know that." I sauntered until I was directly in front of her, biting my lip. "Plus, you'd be the first vampire I ever willingly let drink from me." Her eyes flashed and I got excited, dropping my voice an octave. "I know how much you like to corrupt innocent things." I finish barely a whisper., I didn't even know I possessed. What the hell was wrong with me? Why was I acting this way? I don't know. I couldn't stop. I suddenly felt addicted to talking and acting like this with her. Being a little bad and unpredictable. It was exhilarating.

"Oh yeah?" She leaned down, brushing her lips against my ear. I shutter. "How do I know you won't try something if I let her go?" She leaned back, looking at me expectantly.

"You don't. You'll just have to take that risk." I hold her gaze as her brow lifted up, clearly realizing that I wasn't backing down.

"Okay, Bon Bon. You've enticed me." She began turning the girl towards her by the glanced at me with a warning glare that took me by surprise. "Just remember, it won't take long to find and kill her if you try any tricks. Got it?"

I try not to visibly gulp, nodding mutely.

She turned back to the woman. "Why don't you clean up that bite that stray dog gave you earlier," Katherine began with intense eye contact. "And forget you saw me and my pretty little fangs. Or the annoying sexy witch over there." My jaw dropped. "Now get the hell out of here." She finished with a bit of force, pushing the woman towards the door. I sigh in relief when she was finally gone free and safe. Though dread quickly flushed throughout my body when I saw Katherine plant herself in front of the door with an evil grin, causally turning the lock. Her dark eyes trailed down my body slowly, before coming back up to meet my gaze with a lifted brow. "Well Bonnie I'm waiting. Let's get a taste of that delicious Bennett blood you were bragging about." She taunted with teasing eyes. I bite my lip. Fuck, what was my plan again?

"Katherine.."

The vampire's eyes narrowed, quickly turned the lock back, opening the door. "The poor idiots not even out of the building, Bonnie. You sure you want to play this game?" Her tone was playful but there was a deadly edge to it.

Do I want to play this game? I can tell by the look in her eyes that she wasn't lying. She'd no doubt go find that girl and kill her. Just to spite me. "Fine." I bit out with a little difficulty. "But I only told you you can have a taste. You get greedy, we're gonna have a problem." I spat, though I didn't know how I was going to follow through on that threat.

"Mmm..I like it when you're bitchy." I roll my eyes. She stares at me expectantly before giving me the come hither with her finger. "C'mon baby. You've already got my mouth watering." God, her voice was doing things to me. When did this become a sexual thing? This was supposed to be a rescue mission. Oh wait…I made this a sexual thing. Why? Because clearly that's the only way Katherine knows how to communicate. I slowly walk towards her like a lamb to the slaughter. My earlier confidence was completely gone. Katherine had the upper hand now though she's probably had it all along, When I'm right in front of her, she slowly licks her lips, making me avert my eyes. I hear her chuckle under her breath before pulling me flush against her. "Are you afraid of me?"

"No." I say with an instant scoff, because I wasn't. Of her actions? Maybe.

"Hm.." She hummed running her hand down my side. "You were when we first met. Remember? It went something like this." She turned us around, slamming my back up against the door. I groaned at the pain, barely aware that she was pressed against me everywhere. "You remember, Bon Bon?" She brought her head down to my neck, making my breath hitch but she didn't go for the kill. "You were so confident, it was kind of a turn on." I purse my lips trying my hardest to resist the effect that Katherine of all people, was having on my body. "And kind of pathetic." She continued, "you tried to look so tough but your tell tale heart sounded like it was going to beat out of your chest. Kind of like it is now." I froze when she pressed her hand on my chest, against my boob. "Only difference now..I don't think it's beating this fast from fear."

I stare into her eyes not having the slightest clue on how to respond. She tilts her head in amusement.

"What's the matter, cupcake? Cat got your tongue?"

My breath hitches without my consent as she leans in slightly and I instantly wish it hadn't. Her brow quirk, losing the mirth in her eyes, as desire clouded them. She licks her lips again. "Or maybe, you want Kat to have your tongue." She husked, so close to me her cool breath brushes over my cheek. "You really have nothing to say?" She murmured, brushing her lips against my ear, my eyes fluttering close. I was giving in. Whatever the hell this is. Whatever hold Katherine Pierce suddenly has over me, my body's giving in. I don't won't to see the satisfaction on her face. "Baby.." she calls with an edge of impatience, trying to get my attention.

"I don't like being ignored." I keep my eyes tightly shut as my hand clench into fists. I can't let her know what she's doing to me. "Fine. You don't wanna talk? I'll make you."

I freeze when I feel her lips press against my neck.

She pulls back and her eyes fall to my lips. No, we aren't doing this. She's leaning in. Am I really about to let Katherine Pierce kiss me? Why aren't I pushing her away? Giving her an aneurism...something! I can't move. She's so close I know if I even move, we'll be kissing. Oh God, it's happening. It's happening. We're really about to-

"Bonnie, Bonnie!" My eyes whipped open in panic at the sound of Amara and Sophie's voices. Katherine's dark, hooded eyes are filled with confusion at the sound of my cousins calling out for me. Our eyes meet.

"I have to go." I say firmly.

"Who are they?" She asked with genuine curiosity.

"My little cousins."

"Cousins?" I didn't know what to make of her sudden interest so I did the smart thing and took it as a negative.

"Yes, my innocent, human little cousins, Katherine. So please just let me go." I was practically pleading.

"What and let you out of the deal that you proposed? That's not how it's works, Bonnie." She glanced at the door behind my head. "Or should I-

"Don't even think about it." I grind out with conviction. "You stay the hell away from my family. This is between you and me."

"Bonnie! Where are you? You'll be happy to know we're leaving!" I hear aunt Viv call out in a teasingly voice, though I didn't crack a smile. How could I when I had those intense, calculating eyes boring straight through me. I didn't know what to make of her silence. It was unsettling. "Unless you want to walk to Sherry Lane I suggest you come on, kiddo!" God, she has no idea that potential danger they're in right now. We're all in. I took a breath with one last attempt to sway Katherine into being somewhat human.

"Please let me go."

She continued to gaze at me for a moment before she backed up with coy smile and gestured towards the door. I stared at her dumbly for a moment. She was letting me go? Just like that? I hesitantly reach for the door handle to turn the lock, watching her every move. She simply stared back at me in silence.

I couldn't tell if this was a trick or not and it was frustrating. I slowly open the door, still keeping my eyes on her. When it looked like she really wasn't going to do anything, I quickly slipped out, colliding straight into aunt Viv. "There you are child!" She exclaimed, trying to help me balance myself with her purse and additional shopping bags in the mix. "I thought I was going to have to tell Rudy you were snatched up." She laughed, putting some of my hair behind my ear. I fake a laugh, glancing back at the cracked bathroom door while pushing her to turn around in the direction of the exit.

"Yeah, and then you won't have anyone to do your biddings during the summers anymore." I say a bit distractedly, grabbing ahold of Amara and Sophie's hand to quickly pull them with me. When I looked back, the door was ajar but no sign of her. I sighed with relief, briefly giving the small hands a squeeze as we walked out into the warm summer morning to the parking lot.

Hopefully that has been the last I'll ever see of Katherine Pierce.
