My daughter's addiction.
I wake up the sun is shining in my eyes. I hear the faint noise from down the stairs of my two-story house. I walk down the stairs and see my 10-year-old daughter standing there. She is smiling with a knife in her hand. I tell her "Put the knife down Jessica." But she just glares at me. "But I want to be like Michael mommy!" she tells me. Michael is a serial killer here in Haddonfield. He went and attacked only the year before. I stared at her and told her "Michael was a bad man hunny."
She stares at me for a long while. I point to her room and she puts the knife down and walks to her room. But she glares at me looking back. I don't know why my daughter likes a serial killer so much. She just does and I did not find it weird a first. My husband is a detective and I know how it is to be interested in the past of murders. But she took it a whole new level.
One morning while I was cleaning some of her room, I saw a note on her bed. It said that she was in love with the shape. My daughter is only in the 4th grade! I asked her teachers and her friends if she talks about the shape at school. They said she does not. I talked to her about it and she stopped. Or at least I thought she did….
