All Characters are property of Square Enix, Disney, and Tetsuya Nomura. If I owned Kingdom Hearts then Kairi would have a larger more important PLAYABLE role.

Two Sides of the Same Coin

His dreams were haphazard and mixed, fading in and out like the tides. Tides. That was a comforting thought. Saix was the moon and Demyx was the water, and he was the air and space that separated them, there but full of nothing.

He tuned into the first dream of a memory a little more, and there were his friends laughing at the Land of Departure. Terra was sitting with Aqua and Ventus.

"You're too young to understand, Ven." He was chiding the younger one for not understanding, when really it was just a bluff because he didn't know how to explain it to his friend.

"But I wanna know NOW!" Ventus pouted and Aqua burst out with laughter.

It was the last night they spent under the same sky, but they couldn't have ever possibly known that when it happened. Then, without warning, the scene started to fade out. It became stuck at that halfway point for a few seconds, long enough for him to see two other faded figures coming into focus as his friends disappeared. But his mind switched gears as the others came into perfect focus. This was his friend. More than his friend, this was the boy he called his brother, though they had no blood ties. And brothers were friends for life. They had to be.

"I bet Master Yen Sid'll make me a Keyblade Master before you, Eraqus!" he teased the boy, nudging him in the ribs.

Eraqus glared. "You don't have the discipline to be a Master yet, Xehanort." His brother shot back, laughing as he pushed Xehanort off the ledge and the silver haired teen went rolling into the grass behind them.

"And you do? I saw you trying to make off with that bottle of wine, Eraqus. Planning a New Year's Celebration?" he tugged hard on Eraqus's shirt, sending him sprawling into the grass where they descended into a fit of laughter.

"Alright, maybe neither of us is really ready for this, but the examination is tomorrow."

Xemnas awoke. The room was still dark, but that wasn't a surprise. It didn't matter what time of day it was, it was going to be dark. He blearily looked over at the clock on his nightstand to see that it was entirely too early to be waking up yet. He rested his head back on the pillow, making sure to flip it around to the cooler side. Was this just what sleep was going to be like now? A constant onslaught of memories from two sources, vying for his attention as he tried to figure out which was right. Except for he already knew the answer. They were both right. They were both him. It wouldn't be until he got his heart back that he would be able to find out which he'd become.
